He pushed them in the beginning, because nobody understood what was happening. He was also the first one to stop one it became apparent that it wasn’t really a problem.

Ron did a phenomenal job. Everyone made some poor decisions early, save for Noem.

Exactly!!!

We traveled to Florida in the summer of 2020 when the a$$holes were alleging if you traveled to Florida you were playing with potential death. Everything, and i mean everything was open- and fine.

In fact it was tough getting into restaurants without a long wait because everybody wanted to be in Florida.

To be fair when the virus broke out and we witnessed every country down to small African republics locking down their borders I thought for sure some sort of bioweapon had escaped the laboratory.

Intelligence agencies sounding the alarm to every country imaginable perhaps.

There’s no reason DeSantis would have thought differently.

None of that matters. It is time to put this totalitarian A-hole’s campaign to bed. What makes that video clip of him in June 2020 so bad is that he’s clearly a duplicitous bastard — making statements that these bars and restaurants are having their licenses suspended for violating his “guidelines.”

That’s the language of a smarmy pr!ck. You don’t bring the force of the law down on someone for violating “guidelines.” These were RESTRICTIONS, not guidelines.

As a small business owner myself, there are few things in life that bother me more than what I witnessed here in the U.S. during this COVID fiasco (even to this day). I consider it the ultimate violation of the foundational principles of this country for an American to have his or her business shut down like that by some @sshole in government who lives at the expense of the taxpayers and never misses a single paycheck.

I wouldn't support Ron DeSantis for President if he ran unopposed in the Republican primaries -- and this has nothing to do with Trump.

Exactly. Same with GA, also one of the first states to drop them once they realized it made little to no difference.

Yep. Not interested in the Trump vs. DeSantis fight the RINOs want — and IMO this article is part of that. Ooo DeSantis is a baddie, don’t like him!

Nonsense. He beat the hideous Gollum, er, Gillum, and led even red states in the reopening against constant and strong criticism and doom-saying by many.

In a similar way Trump listened to 30Pence and others in what looks like to me the impression that C19 was a purely foreign phenomenon, rather than a coordinated strategy to stop the MAGA agenda and install Brandon. 2022 has made it clear to everyone that the GOP establishment is happy to sabotage *itself* to keep regular Americans out, whether they’re left-wing Occupy Wallstreet types or normal MAGA types.

I am personally praying that, while competing (perhaps) for the nomination, they do so without rancor and with the shared purpose of advancing America. Time to resurrect Reagan’s “eleventh commandment” for this purpose.

No he wasn’t. If you want to be accurate it was Iowa Gov Kim Reynolds who was the first to get kids back in school and fully open up business. The Left called her Covid Kim for a reason. DeSantis just happens to be in a larger state. There are other Governors who did a better job than he did. He’s just the current darling of the Trump haters.

I live in Florida and to be fair Florida was locked down like every other state early in the pandemic. When I left the state and came back I had to go through a checkpoint on the interstate with police officers asking where I'd been and if you answered wrong you were told to quarantine for two weeks.

We were prohibited from going onto the beaches (why I'll never know) and from my condo you could see the police helicopters flying down the beach every 15 minutes or so to enforce it. There were also police trucks constantly driving up and down the beach. You'd see families sneak out of their condos onto the beach, the dad would face one direction and the mom the other direction to watch for police while the kids would run into the water and splash around for a couple of minutes before dad would motion for them to come back and they'd run back to the condo. It would have been funny except for how pathetic it was that people were forced to live like that. Restaurants were take out only and the ones that stayed open had to hand out food from tents outside the building in the parking lots. Many didn't survive, one of my favorites, Hemingway's in Pensacola Beach, went under.

So yes, it's true that for a while Florida was as stupid as every other state about the pandemic. That was from about May 2020 until probably October or November. That's about the time that DeSantis realized how stupid it all was and eased off the restrictions. I give him credit for being one of the first governors to stop the silliness, and by doing so saved Florida's economy and our resident's sanity. However, it's true that in the beginning Florida was as retarded as everyone else in dealing with Covid.

People forget so very quickly there were organizations out there like the Bill Gates-funded Washington University Institute for Health and Metrics Evaluation (IHME) predicting very dire numbers (up to one million Americans dead) within the year..... and they weren’t the only ones. NIAID of NIH (Fauci and Collins), CDC (WAlensky), WHO et al were chicken-little’ing all over the place.

People also forget that New York’s Cuomo et al clamored loudly over the dearth of ventilators and hospital beds - one example a multi-million dollar hospital tent set up in NYC that was virtually UNUSED, and the Hospital ship President Trump sent - also unused. And those ventilators the President diverted production resources for? They were largely sold off or junked as I recall.

To me, it’s not the point it was done initially as a seemingly valid caution. It was very scary (made up, but scary). The point is that some states saw quickly that all that mask mandate/closure stuff wasn’t needed. Many states kept on doing it - to the point that “Mask Karens” on Youtube became a regular viewing option.

All this said, I don’t blame DeSantis OR President Trump for their early Covid responses. I support Trump first and then DeSantis and IF it works out either gets the nomination I’ll go with them.

Out here in flyover country, the lockdown was 2-3 weeks, just enough time for stores to put up plexiglas, signs and tape on the floor. Wasn't enforced anyway. By June when DeSantis was threatening bars, we had tossed the masks, everything was open except for chain restaurants but that was corporate decision making. Kids went back to school a few months later, no masks, no distancing.

Our governor made recommendations but it was pretty much up to the people to follow them or not so we used observation.(because nobody understood what was happening) BS. We observed no mass die off so we went back to normal.

Unlike FL/DeSantis, it wasn't turned into a TV mini-series. I realize now why DeSantis was on TV "fighting the good fight" so much. He's being pushed on us.

Was DeSantis the first, or Kemp in Georgia? I really don’t know. I do know Kemp caught hell publicly from Trump very early on in Covid for reversing many early Covid policies based on CDC/NIH “wisdom”.
