Montana voters look set to reject proposal to give legal personhood to born infants: “Born Alive Infant Protection Act” Appears Headed for Defeat

Montana residents this week appeared poised to vote down a proposal to give all infants born in the state the legal protection of personhood, one of several pro-life measures that sputtered at the polls during the midterm elections.

The measure, Montana Referendum No. 131, was polling at 52% opposed with more than 80% of the votes tallied on Wednesday afternoon. The Montana news website YourBigSky on Wednesday reported that the measure "was defeated by a 4% margin," though it is unclear if the total votes have yet been tallied.

The referendum, if passed, would have enacted a state-level "born alive infant protection act" that would have established "an infant born alive is a legal person for all purposes under the laws of the state and is entitled to the protections of the laws, including the right to appropriate and reasonable medical care and treatment."

“In the absence of proper legal protections," that bill argues, "newly born infants who have survived abortions have been denied appropriate lifesaving or life-sustaining medical care and treatment and have been left to die."

The bill declares that healthcare providers who violate its personhood provisions would be "guilty of a felony and upon conviction shall be fined an amount not to exceed $50,000, be imprisoned in a state prison for a term not to exceed 20 years, or both."

Florida has a few things going for it: weather and no state income taxes.

Toss in a Governor and state legislature that are making all the right moves. Conservative retirees that are taking their pensions down there. And a massive influx of cops that are leaving the liberal cities, up north, and becoming cops/deputies down there, where the police/sheriff departments are welcoming trained and seasoned folks, with open arms. In less than a month, those Chiefs and Sheriffs have folks on the street, working. No more costly academies and field training, etc.

Former NYPD officer shows up. Hiring process, two week course to get certified by the state, some field training....VOILA...here are the keys to your take home car, uniforms, gear, no state income tax, a citizenry that(for the most part) actually supports them and that’s all folks.

This proposition was poorly written, and would mandate futile and ruinously expensive heroic measures for babies born with absolutely no hope of survival, even against the wishes of the parents. Plenty of otherwise pro-life voters thought it went too far.

In principle, the born child should have personhood and rights including to extensive, expensive healthcare. In practice that means people who can’t afford to pay are dependent on other people being willing to pay.

After all, someone is going to have to pony up the dough to keep those unwanted / severely disabled infants breathing and fed for years to come.

Conservative ideology created a healthcare system that is motivated entirely by profit and insurance risk offset. And the bill proposes swingeing financial penalties if care isn’t provided.

Conclusion: no matter how sound the moral principle, conservative ideology means that nobody wanted to pick up the tab, the healthcare industry didn’t want the financial and legal risks, statism couldn’t be allowed to take over...

Nice idea. Shame about the ideology.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Just when would these little children become a "person"? What have we become? A Nation of evil?

I'd say that instead of securing blessings, we should be in line for Old Testament retribution, and deservedly so!

Yes, I forgot about Ohio and Iowa. They are getting more red which is great for them. Ohio is very interesting especially with some big cities. How is this happening?

If you need a law to be forced to provide health care for a baby that survives a botched abortion, you’re in deep trouble.

If you vote down that same law, you’re in very deep trouble.

If you’re in Montana and you vote down that law, you’re irretrievable . . .

Let’s see where this is headed … why shouldn’t this “picking up the tab” logic apply to OLDER babies, or toddlers or ( pick your age )?

Democrat news, even though they ARE Communists, didn’t like being associated with RED, so they swapped red for blue.
