Trump is Wrongly Blamed for Subpar GOP Performance
PJ Media ^ | 11/09/2022 | Rick Moran

Posted on 11/09/2022 10:00:56 PM PST by SeekAndFind

The Republicans had a pretty good midterm election despite what pundits are claiming. The GOP must win three of the remaining four Senate races to win control of the upper chamber — a goal well within reach as Republicans lead in Nevada and Wisconsin. And the party is within spitting distance of a House majority.

But no red wave. A combination of better-than-expected Democratic enthusiasm and underperforming Republican candidates squandered several opportunities to flip House seats and give the GOP a sizable House majority in January.

How did this happen? If you ask most of the media, the fault for the underperforming Republican Party rests with Donald Trump.

Former Obama campaign strategist David Plouffe said, “I think you have to say Donald Trump has now presided over two disastrous midterm elections.” That’s a matter of opinion. First, Trump did not “preside” over the 2022 midterms. Plouffe is getting his talking points mixed up with reality. Trump wasn’t on the ballot no matter how hard Democrats wished it were so.

Secondly, 2018 wasn’t much of a “disaster,” given that Republicans gained two Senate seats. They lost the House — just as Democrats will almost certainly lose the House in 2022.

“Given the history of presidents in power, Democrats controlling all of Washington, inflation, this should’ve been a much stronger night for Republicans,” Plouffe said. “A bunch of reasons for that. But at the top of them is Donald Trump. He’s deeply unpopular, he supported a bunch of horrible Senate candidates who may end up coughing up the football here.”

The fact that Trump is “unpopular” outside the Republican Party was pointed out by several pundits. This is “analysis”? Trump entered office in 2017 and his favorable numbers were almost immediately underwater.

This is simply a failure of the press and analysts.

The election is not all bad news for TRump. There were many successes for MAGA.

So we all have to sit and watch the MSM pundits crowing that Trump is dead.

Not so.

Trump is just getting started. He sure is a main factor even though Trump is not a candidate anywhere.

The next 2 weeks will show whats next.

We see Trump Derangement Syndrome still stoking the MSM and , lefties and RINOS to jump up and down screaming like a bunch of rabid monkeys, its highly entertaining.

Meanwhile the MAGA powder is still dry and ready. This was just a skirmish.

having eked out 218 victories

didn't Trump endorse over 400 candidates?

that only a 50% success rate

that's not great

Voting by mail is the least secure means of voting.

That has long been known and everybody has long agreed that this is true. That’s why its extremely limited and there are extremely strict controls around it in pretty much every other democratic country.

That is of course exactly why Democrats are so in favor of it.

Personally, I’d like to see it limited as much as possible and I’d like to go back to everybody voting on election day only - make it a national holiday if necessary. If you have to vote on election day only, it is once again harder to commit fraud. In addition to that, make everybody show government issued photo ID.

Every European country does all of the above. Show up to vote on election day only and bring photo ID. We did it that way for 200 years.

But of course Democrats don’t want that so it is therefore “racist”.

Because Black people can’t show up on election day and show ID like any other humans, because ummm, reasons.

“Abortion was the key issue. Dobbs backlash.”

I could not bring myself to believe people would be dumb enough to put that of all things as their main priority in this environment. Well I hope they enjoy their abortion clinics on every street corner when they are in the gutter buried under an avalanche of bills.

You either want the President picked FOR you by a cabal in the shadows - or you want Trump.

didn't Trump endorse over 400 candidates?

And of course Trump wants us to count establishment guys like Kevin McCarthy and Marco Rubio among his “Trump endorsement wins” as if he had anything to do with their preordained victories.

The GOP candidates did great considering the election fraud hasn’t been cleaned up anywhere but Florida since 2020.

Bingo! So many comments here based on the premise that the election was all on the up and up across the country. Right... folks here need to learn what ‘assume’ means. https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Assume

Agreed. Trump does not know when to keep his rhetoric down. It really hurt him especially with moderate voters who are would be willing to give him a chance if he wasn’t so crass.

DeSantis knows how to push the issues that we like but he also comes across as a reasonable person. Trump has done a lot of good for the republican party, showed politicians how to fight back, he has paved the way for politicians like DeSantis. He’s done a great job. But his time is over. We need to start winning elections. It’s not about Trump.

I’m a fan of Trump but...

He owns the failure in Pennsylvania lock, stock and barrel.

They were both Trump guys and Oz had no business being a nominee and Mastriano was bat guano crazy for a purple state candidate.

Hershel Walker is also another candidate that leaves me shaking my head in a WTF fashion.

Fine he may have this 179-20 win ratio but those three mattered more than many of those other wins.

He’s like Mike Tomlin, lots of wins, one championship.

Well someone is to blame. It is either Trump or the feckless loser uni-party RINOs and we know it isn’t the latter. So, it has to be Trump. That’s logic for you.

but this election was a disaster for the GOP...and much of it rests on Trump trying to make it all about himself.

Trump made it about MAGA giving GOPe a disaster in the making and they had to make it about anti-MAGA. The soul of the party can't rest with the people who support Trump and tried to sweep the swampcritters out of their lethargic go along to get along slumber. Yep. It's Trump's disaster all right.

What is sorely missing from the “analysis” is the fact that conservative voters are leaving yankeeland in droves. All those license plates I see from New York and taxachusetts aren’t an illusion. If conservatives are moving south...they’re NOT voting in yankeeland. They’re voting in places like Florida. That tidbit of info is “shocking” to the “pundits”! LOL!

The populist working class simply did not show up and vote in Trumpian numbers. It seems they show up for Trump and and not his candidates. Can’t real blame them. This electorate was more highly educated than usual and of course a majority of them believe in the system, the jabs, etc.

Tudor Dixon is Michigan-all she talked about was Moms. No appeal to the working class that I saw. She didn’t fully embrace Trump although i’m not sure it would have mattered. Libs love their tyrants.
