Hurricane Nicole
NHC/NOAA ^ | 7 November 2022 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 11/07/2022 2:18:20 AM PST by NautiNurse

November brings Nicole and mid-term elections. Nicole has developed with subtropical characteristics in the Atlantic Ocean, taking aim for storm weary Florida.

A subtropical system has some central convection fairly near the center surrounding a warming core existing in the mid-levels of the troposphere. Nicole may further develop into a tropical storm.

Pregnant “people” near-term are more likely to be popping out babies during this storm, during the full moon and high King tide.

Tampa Bay: Expect extended time with TS winds and scattered power outages. There is a chance of some storm surge, less than the Atlantic Coast.

It’s just a dreary day here in Seminole County. Rain bands coming through off and on, now mostly on! One nice thing- even though it’s damp it’s 70F so I opened all the windows for awhile- I’m partial to real air. We’ll see if the old oaks here can handle even more water- always a worry.

Hey there! Glad you checked in. Liking this cooler weather before the storm. Makes outdoor preps more tolerable. Can't believe how big this wind field is. Looks like four Florida peninsulas would fit inside.

Got chocolate?

Put the stuff that can fly away into the shed. Hadn’t put the patio furniture back out after Ian, so I saved myself a bit of work. Ready!

I moved my tomato Earthboxes under the deck. Seedlings on the planter cart moved there too. The salad table is too heavy to move. The baby seedling lettuce, scallions, carrots and radishes are left to fend for themselves.

Oh boy….last I checked eye was going to be right near you. Yesterday it was forecast over us. We actually preferred that because we back up to the river. If this makes landfall south of here and goes across the state…the winds will then swing around and push the Indian River into the backyard and whip up some damage

BUT…is what it is. Stay safe! We still have power, etc. we just walked across to beach. Definitely more windy than this morning. Riverside is RELATIVELY calm. Our house is buffeted by trees a bit. And the dunes are pretty high across the street so hopefully storm surge will be buffeted also. Hope y’all do ok!

Oh my gosh! You be safe too! I don’t trust this storm. Something is “off” on the reporting and models. Like they don’t want anyone to prep or something. Down here, maybe 40% are shuttered. That’s not good. We’re buttoned up and ready to rock. Better safe than sorry. Been here 40 years and take no storm for granted.

Correct. I think it depends on how far south the storm stays. We will likely start with a push OUT event like Ian. But if the center of rotation gets to the WEST of Tampa Bay there will be wind pushing water into the area rather than away. It’s going to be interesting.

Very good. Glad you’re taking it seriously. We definitely are. We have a beautiful sunroom to look out on the river….with nice hurricane shutters which will be closed in a few hours. Actually this is my stepfather’s place and we’re visiting for a bit (me, daughter and her 3 babies…so it has been interesting!). I’ve been coming here 2-3 times a year for over 30 years but this is our first hurricane.

Doggone storm is HUGE. Got plenty of chocolate! Curled up with a book and my pup and the rain. We napped. A rare luxury! Brought plants on the porch so we’re all set. The rain has been steady all afternoon.

Taking the dog out now for an airing- she’s really good about running out to do her business in rain- makes quick work of it!

Stay dry and safe my FRiend.

You’re in for a very intense night. Possibly power outages, which means no traffic lights, gas stations, grocery stores etc…. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen but if it does, stick around the neighborhood tomorrow, clean up, help the neighbors. Hurricanes have a way of forcing you to meet the neighbors who you don’t yet know! 😆 lots of good friendships have happened that way so there is a silver lining.

Check this out. About 12 condos and a freakin hotel are getting close to falling into the ocean. I know it’s tempting to live on the beach...but ..

Actually, this has been a long time in the making. Matthew, Ian and others have just worn it away. Nature will have the last word. I think it’s even worse in Flagler but haven’t checked.

I learned to make coffee on the gas grill during 17 days of no power (Frances-Jeanne). It’s an art.

Go on Utube videos for days of the high rises on Daytona Beach it is not safe. During Ian the ocean came over the seawall under the high rises...Daytona high rises are being mandatory eviction, right now...

Yep- just saw the Fox 35 report from there on YouTube. Amazing how powerful is our ability to deny reality and risk our lives.
