Pretty much the only comparable parallel to the current imbecile in office, is Buchanan in 1861. He managed to alienate everyone with a completely ineffectual presidency, and was persona non grata across the spectrum, however, he had only ever pledged to run one term.
I do not believe there has ever been a situation where a President was forced not to run for re-election by his own party. Truman was technically grandfathered in to the 22nd Amendment and was talked out of running in 1952 due to low approvals, but had already served nearly 2 terms. Similar with LBJ but he too had a full term plus the remainder of JFK’s.

I dont pretend to be a seer, but I’m thinking it’s three strikes and you’re out for Beto. Same reason as you apply to Newsom. He’s white, plus he’s shown to be an accomplished loser. Abrams… maybe so. She’ll only have two strikes and they would love to make a silk purse out of that particular sow’s ear.

Abrams has little to no national appeal. The viral sound bite of her saying an unborn’s heartbeat is fake is what she is most famous for.
If Trump declares that he is running, then the Dems cannot run Biden against him.
It’ll be a match-up of two presidencies and they will lose it unless they can manufacture millions more votes.
They might try to trot out Hillary with a “see, you should’ve elected me in the first place”. That will, of course, be a disaster, too, but they could try it.
Why are they talking about this like its Joe’s decision? It wasn’t his decision to run in 2020. It was Jill’s decision then and she will claw to hold onto power in 2024.
Abrams will claim fraud cost her the previous elections. And the press and many demonrats will believe her.
Newsom can do it. But he's too Left and from California.
Joe Biden is from Delaware so he appeared to be "moderate" compared to Bernie Sanders.
So Newsom may not gain as much traction as he thinks he can unless he can somehow persuade the base he is capable of winning the election.
