An upstate New York sheriff is irked that people around the US are 3D printing firearms to turn into gun buyback programs for cold, hard cash.
"I know in Utica, New York, Houston, Texas, and Spartanburg, South Carolina that 3D printed guns were submitted to the gun buyback program," Robert Swenszkowski, the sheriff of New York's Oneida County and, strangely, a professor at Utica University, told Spectrum News 1.
He appeared to be referring to several stories that emerged this summer, in which people in Texas, South Carolina and New York did indeed sell back guns they 3D printed at home to local authorities as part of state gun buyback programs. One man, who identified himself only as "Kem," admitted that he 3D printed more than 100 guns to turn into New York State's gun buyback program. He was awarded $21,000 for his efforts, which was paid out to him in $500 gift cards.

If the state didn’t sell the guns, how is it a buy back?

I love it. If my tax dollars are to be spent on that crap, I want it ripped off by someone who makes them look like the idiots they are.

I have the files archived, and a 3D Printer. I need to find them in case our state has a similar idiotic program coming up.

The files that is... I use the 3D Printer fairly frequently. They are very handy and these days pretty cheap. I am kind of partial to the Creality Printers. I like the larger format, but this smaller one is cheaper and all one needs for printing one of the goofball guns.

You would actually be better off with a zip gun made from pipe fittings but they probably wouldn't pay you for one of those.

Can’t have it both ways.

Once he demonstrated they were functional, they paid him $200 apiece.
Because the buyback was "No Questions Asked" they couldn't charge him will illegally manufacturing to resale.
Needless to say, the PPD was not amused.
