ANCHORAGE — Speaking to a large conference room of Alaska Natives on Friday, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R) had only words of praise for Rep. Mary Peltola (D), the first Alaska Native elected to Congress, who is also up for reelection.
“Mary is a woman whose heart is as grounded in Alaska as anybody you’re going to find,” Murkowski told reporters after the event, wearing a gold-colored, paisley-patterned kuspuk, common Alaska Indigenous clothing Peltola gave her last year.
Asked if she would rank Peltola first on her ballot next month in Alaska’s new ranked-choice voting system, Murkowski paused. After a full 18 seconds, she said, “Yeah, I am.” She then mumbled, “I’m going to get in so much trouble.”
Asked to respond to Murkowski’s de facto endorsement, Peltola said, “I’m voting for her, so we’re even-steven.”
Murkowski and Peltola represent different parties and different chambers of Congress, but both are embarking on the same difficult journey to win reelection in a red state. Both are running against more conservative candidates who have the backing of former president Donald Trump in a state he won by 10 points in 2020.
Despite being from different parties, Murkowski and Peltola are finding more things draw them together than drive them apart. They are running as abortion rights moderates who are independent-minded consensus-builders focused on Alaska’s needs, including juggling the impact of climate change and the state’s economic reliance on oil, not the partisan and culture wars playing out in the Lower 48.

"Whatever it takes" is the attitude of these insidious oligarchs.
Palin took out her father so I wouldn't expect Murkowski to endorse her. But Begich is a "good" Republican from a Democrat family. But STILL just too conservative for Murkowski...because she's a Democrat.
If the Democrats didn't already have a majority, she would have pulled a Jim Jeffords to provide them with one.
Uniparty
That’s sure to help both of them.
Murkowski is hated by the GOP and Begich will be hated by demos for supporting a GOP.
Just two Dems endorsing one another. Nothing to see here.
It’s the kiss of death.
What party?
An important reminder there is no need to pick a second choice for Alaskans.
Just for the actual Republican and leave the rest blank.
Anyone notice how the media calls anyone pro abortion a “moderate”? I’ve yet to hear them refer to any pro abortion politician as an extremist. They don’t call anyone supporting state funding of it as extremists, or those wanting a federal law banning states from outlawing it as extremists, or even those that support it up to the ninth month as extremists.
They belong to the RAT and RINO Party. Nice.
Cross party lines? Doesn’t one of them have to be a Republican for that to happen?

More “objective” reporting.
democrats will vote for murkowski as i understand it, and that should seal the deal.
Kelly Tshibaka needs to get a commercial out there immediately blaming Murkowski for putting the deciding Boggs vote on the supreme court.
I certainly hope so.
Yes the ranked voting that the GOPe shoved through specifically to save Murkowski is going to do just that.
juggling the impact of climate change and the state’s economic reliance on oil,
Why would Alaska not want climate change if the state gets warmer?
Apparently Turtle McConnell pulled 6mil in ad buys in NH for Don Bolduc a Republican (Trump endorsed) who is tied in polling with Maggie Hassan Dem incumbent while sending 9mil to Alaska for Murkowski against the other Republican ( forget her name also Trump endorsed I believe). Alaska will be a R senator regardless why is Turtle chancing not having a Republican majority?
“Despite being from different parties”
Anther journalistic lie. MadCow is a member of the RINO party - a small segment of politicians that are actually anti-American Chameleons!!!
Ignoring the fact that man has very little impact on climate, the left sees oil and fossil fuels in general causing climate change, which they view as a threat to humanity.
