Professor says Latinos can ‘achieve whiteness’ and become racist
American Thinker ^ | Eric Utter

Posted on 10/21/2022 3:11:25 AM PDT by RoosterRedux

According to the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez, a Latina Democrat, recently referred to a councilman’s Black son as a “monkey”-- and also said in reference to liberal Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon, “he’s with the Blacks.”

This prompted MSNBC host Tiffany Cross to ask Fordham University law professor Tanya Hernández if making racist comments made a Latino white or just a racist racial minority. Hernández, a self-proclaimed “race law expert” with an interest in Critical Race Theory, replied:

“Well, I actually think that there is another layer to this. Some people within the Latino community do achieve whiteness, one, because they are white appearing, they favor more our European ancestors, and depending on their accent, their educational level, whether they actually have a recognizable Hispanic surname, that all those things that enable a person to, I wouldn’t call it passing, but seemingly—just-- and seamlessly being able to pass into whiteness, or white Anglo-whiteness, just as they have whiteness within Latin America and the Caribbean. Um, so, I guess what I want to say is that despite this idea of all Latinos being brown, you know, some browns are browner than others and some whites are whiter than others. There are Latinos who are white, whether they have that personal identity or not, that’s their socially ascribed race from others outside, and they get to move in that privilege as well.”

Latinos are incapable of exhibiting racist behavior unless and until they “achieve” whiteness? Say what?! Hernández sounded like a cross between Kamala Harris and a laundry detergent commercial. Some browns are browner than other browns and some whites are whiter than white?!

Just as an aside, I think that FR posters should ignore the position that the LSM has taken and never capitalize ‘black’ (or ‘white’ for that matter of course).... the exception being when one of those words is the first word in a sentence.

I don’t know if there is a ‘genocide coming for whites’ as other posters above have suggested but I do know one thing..... there can be no role for anyone to elevate one ethnic group over another ethnic group and certainly not based on the percent of melatonin in their skin. If God does not do that, then neither should we....

Acts 10:33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)

That word respecter’ in the original Greek is ‘prosopolemptes’ and it connotes the concept of ‘showing favoritism or being ‘partial’ (as opposed to impartiality) and in some versions of scripture, the word ‘partial’ is used (instead of the word ‘respecter’ which is what is used in the KJV) and it means the same thing. We all are on a totally equal footing when we stand before God where there really is only one thing that matters... what did we do with Jesus Christ?

Weird as Latinos can be any color.

*************

I personally think we are at the point that anyone with a
little time/money can change a lot of the outward looks they
show. The real human attribute is how they mix / accept or
reject the other groups. jmo

Remember when the media advertised George Zimmerman as a “white” hispanic.

I capitalize Blacks and Whites because I am not referring to a color but to a defined race. It’s not a proper noun per se (so I guess I am technically wrong), but it helps clarify what I mean.

At least he recognizes that it is something to be desired. Western Civilization: Achieve it!

Asians are already “white adjacent”. Why not Latins?

I suppose and there is no problem if there was a consistency with how this was broadly applied.... but it seems to me that the roots of this capitalizing thing started as a fallout to the burn/loot/murder riots where plenty in the LSM were capitalizing the word ‘black’ but not ‘white’. Rather than go along with the LSM and what they have done, I would rather reject this completely as opposed to introducing some new concept into the mix. The world worked fine (at least in this regard) when neither word was capitalized.

With regards to your comment about referring to ‘Blacks and Whites as defined races, why bother? To what end? By way of context, the word ‘race’ I think is a totally new concept that has to do with ‘common characteristics of either a social or physical nature’ which are viewed as being somewhat unique for particular groups. Some basic research will show that the term ‘race’ didn’t even come into being until about the 16th century and it has been fungible ever since as far as what it refers to. From a biology perspective, it doesn’t have any real or defined meaning per se.... so why bother to even use it? To use it is to use something that is changeable and that means manipulable for what ultimately are political reasons.

The whole power thing is just warmed over Marxist drivel. It has been repackaged to infest souls that may not even believe in socialism and to make them angry, bitter, spiteful and easily manipulatable by those who are Marxists.

To paraphrase the scene from The Wall: You can’t discuss racism unless you agree to use our Marxist Comprehension of race! How can you discuss racism without our Marxist Comprehension?!?

Marx said that religion is the opiate of the masses, but he, being a liar and not an honest man, did not also say that communism and such social theories are the true and perfect opiate of the elites and masses alike, for they offer something approaching salvationistic zeal but totally lacking in all the repentance and righteousness guff. With Marxism you can think that by believing in the right sort of secular ideology it does not really matter the sort of person you are or what you do just so long as you can claim it advances the Revolution.

“Well, I actually think that there is another layer to this. Some people within the Latino community do achieve whiteness,”

When on a bus tour of Costa Rica a few years back, the guide pointed out the people walking along the street. “Do you see them?”, he asked, “What do you notice about them? We are white”, he said with obvious pride. Now the official government position is that Costa Ricans are mestizos, but obviously that wasn’t how he looked at it.

Imagine such a thing; being proud of being white and saying it out loud.

I completely agree. But it has been marketed to Black people who have never really thought about Marxism. They have been conditioned to think it's okay to be racist if you are Black. Preachers spew that crap from the pulpit.

Of course, that's bullshit.

Racism is racism, whatever your race.

When you exchange the word "hatred" for "racism" and then point out that if you hate people, they will hate you back, regardless of your color or powerlessness, people might begin to rethink the idea of permissible racism.

Ever since Latinos wanted ZERO to do with burning down the country in the name of Floyd, they have been persona non grata to the commies and their elite handlers.

Elite handlers must have forgot they've been rigging Central and South American elections for many decades.

I’ve lived in Brazil - the only people in my high rise (no expats - all white collar Brazilians) darker than me were my Afro-Brazilian first wife and the hired help.

Latin Americans talk about social class divides all the time but ignore the racial divide (obvious to an outsider) whereas people in the US talk about the racial divide all the time but claim there is no social class divide (also obvious to an outsider).

I have gone farther, pointing out that at the root of their attitudes is a nurtured bitterness over vicarious injuries and with it a nursing a spirit of unforgiveness, entitlement and anger.

These things work against a person being able to repent and be saved.

They serve to ruin the witness of someone whom, though the Lord has got them through the proverbial eye of the needle, they still continue in this pride and will continue to ruin their witness until they finally lay this at the Lord’s feet too.

The ideology of race grievances has eternal consequences ... and they are all bad.

In Brazil, you never see whites marrying someone black or indigenous although people of mixed origins will be married to whites provided they are not too dark.

If you are from Latin America and you are of unmixed Euro ancestry you are WHITE period. As far as mixing with others is concerned, there are certain groups in the US classified as “white” who have historically shown alot of endogamy (such as Jewish and Greek Americans in the NY area).
