Ah, well. UK was a good idea at the time.
“Churchill did regain his position as PM in 1951 and kept it through 1955”
Despite being paralyzed for most of that time.
Is their a cautionary tale for fiscal conservatives in the United States? Is the economic security of the American population now more dependent upon the government rather than individual merit?
Yes,I think he could and should! The UK is in desperate need of leadership and he should step forward!
Quote; “Well, that escalated quickly...”
Yah, she killed somebody with a trident.

Anyway, Winston was a great man even though his efforts were not always appreciated by his countrymen. I read his massive six volume series on the Second World War and it is a highly recommended account of the war from the perspective of one who played a key role in world events.
In the years leading up to WW2, Churchill was out of power and as loathed by the "elite" as Donald Trump is in our country today. But when his country needed him most, Winston was there to pull England's chestnuts out of the fire at a time when things were at their bleakest.
We may be nearing that point again.
My take is that "fiscal conservatism" lost its credibility with Americans when it included these two blocks in its foundation:
1. open borders
2. "free trade"
And on top of that, I'd say a true fiscal conservative would be pushing for something that hardly ever gets mentioned as a potential tax policy anymore: a flat tax.
The great thing about Thatcher is that she was a conservative who was sure in her beliefs. Sadly, what we see too commonly here and abroad are conservatives who attain a higher office and try to adopt liberal positions on some things because they believe it will broaden their popularity. But it is pure conservatism that brings the success that ultimately brings popularity. I remember how Reagan had to endure some tough times in the early 80’s in order to fix our inflation and high interest problems. But he stuck to his guns, and by 1984 it was morning in America.
John Lackland.
By far the worst.
Mary was the worst female. Her sister was no angel either.
All the Tudors were bastards...hell nearly all the monarchs back then were bastards.
.
Bad year for Lizzes..,(Cheney, The Queen and Truss)
True.
I’d forgot about ‘John’, the only John there has ever been on the throne. Murdered his nephew, heir to the throne, son of Richard ‘The Lion Hearted’ who also was no angel............
Yep.
Spot on, as usual.
As the new PM, she no sooner met the queen - the longest serving British monarch - that the queen died.
Hmmm. Well, I suppose everything has to average out.
Joke on another thread went, “She killed the Queen, the Pound, and the Tory Party in 44 days. Impressive.”
And most haven’t a clue about the dark histories of the clowns they claim to want to “bring back”, none of whom are heroes.
It is amazing how pretty much all of the major countries that make up western civilization have taken on the image of Rome in the very last days.
The Plantagenets were the worlds longest running feud...EVER.
Full of queers, creeps, perverts and pure sons a bitches.
I believe worse than the rulers of both Israel and Judah.
Your right..Richard the 1st was born and bread to do one thing. That is fight. Spent very little time in his kingdom and just about sucked it dry of money.
The best one IMO? Edward the 3rd.
Ever play a board game called ‘Kingmaker’?.....................
