ALEXANDRIA, Virginia — A jury has found Russian national Igor Danchenko not guilty on four false statements charges, declining to convict him for the allegations that the main source of British ex-spy Christopher Steele had lied to the FBI about his sourcing for the discredited anti-Trump dossier.
The jury reached their decision on Tuesday after less than two days of deliberations, delivering John Durham another defeat in his long-running investigation of the Trump-Russia investigators, after the special counsel lost another false statements case against a Clinton campaign lawyer in May.
According to Durham’s November 2021 indictment, Danchenko anonymously sourced a fabricated claim about Trump 2016 campaign manager Paul Manafort to Charles Dolan, a Clinton ally who spent years, including 2016, doing work for Russian businesses and the Russian government, but in a blow to Durham’s case, the judge threw out that charge before the jury could decide on it.
One charge had been dismissed by the judge last week, and on Tuesday a jury was reached shortly before the end of the day. It has not been announced yet.

Er, Orangeman bad?
DoJ surely manipulated this verdict to give them something to leverage a release for Griner with . Just watch...
That’s what I want to know.
In my opinion the next Republican President needs to move the entire DOJ from DC to K.C. MO or Oklahoma City, OK.
This is that Bag Piping hypocrite writ large.
GRINER
Or maybe Putin will do us all a favor with D.C.
Given the venue, Danchenko did not have a jury of his peers. Rather, he had a jury of his equals.
This only justifies those who want to rectify this situation by other more harsh means.
Infuriating!
Danchenko now cannot be retried (double jeopardy), so, he CANNOT refuse to testify in a hearing about all of his involvement. His only danger would be if he lies under oath. Republican committees should press this guy, and the "not guilty" attorney relentlessly.
It’s a DC jury. Reasoning probably didn’t enter into it.
Reminds me of the time my friend was called to Jury duty. He was sitting in the courtroom during jury selection waiting to be called to interview. The defendant was sitting with his lawyers. My friend was looking at him with a scowl. One of the lawyers for the defense turned in his chair, jumped up, pointed to my friend and yelled “DISMISS THAT MAN”!
Pretty tough to serve on a jury if you make problems for the FBI.
In this former Soviet agent’s case, he is fortunate to find a jury of his peers among the sputniki (fellow travellers) making up the vast mass of federal aparachniki inhabiting the expensive homes of Northern Virginia.
Got to hand it to Durham’s team. They raked in a lot of cash for doing nothing.
So. What was the DEI makeup of the jury? My guess is over 70% black DC residents. (and that’s conservative).
I see failure to convince a duly constructed jury as failure. If he tried.
