Amazon employees at an important distribution hub in Joliet walked off the job Tuesday, calling attention to their demands for higher pay and new workplace safety rules.
The walkout by some employees on the day shift was timed to disrupt the retailer’s operations during its Prime Day promotion, which lasts Tuesday and Wednesday. It was part of a national pressure campaign, supported by pro-labor groups, that included job actions near Atlanta and a walkout planned Friday in San Bernardino, California.
Organizers said more than 600 workers in Joliet signed a petition demanding that the company raise base hourly wages to $25. Amazon has said it has raised average starting pay for warehouse staff to $19 an hour. The workers also are demanding a more robust company response to death threats directed at Black employees that they said were posted in an employee washroom last May.
Cesar Escutia, a warehouse associate for about three months at Amazon, said a manager was dismissive about the threats despite widespread employee concerns. Escutia also said his hourly wage is $18.50.

I have a high pressure job.
I'm usually in my underwear doing computer development.
It's brutal.
So how is the Oregone governor’s race going in your area and then the state?
Thanks
Good luck with walking of the job with Amazon.
They will just close that distribution center and work around it.
UPS, FedX. USPS and ???? want that business and will do whatever needs to be done to get it and to keep it.
In this part of N. California, Amazon is delivering about 1 out of 3 to 4 orders
Amazon isn’t the only company facing accusations that it’s failed to stop racism at some of its facilities. Tesla has faced multiple lawsuits from employees about its factory in Fremont, California, and has reportedly paid out millions in settlements relating to racial discrimination at the plant.
Workin' on it. Getting my two boys relocated to Tennessee in early November. Once they're gone, I finish up two small projects in the house, put it on the market and I'm outta here.
Retiring early. I'm no longer going to be a tax slave. I'm going to be one big pain in the ass to this out of control government of ours.
So you keep working, and thank you for my monthly check!
Hey, if I generated the cash for you, I'm entitled to a piece!
97% should cover it.
O! I forgot. I'm not your ex-wife!
Topeekeegeeyoungee park
Yeah, we just call it TY park
Laz. You are the exception that proves the rule

My daughter was finishing her NP during the worst of the pandemic. Trying to get her guilt levels down was a daily task
She’s now an NP and got hooked up with a great family practice
Shout outs to all nurses. You are da bomb

Thank God Almighty for that because you damn' sure ugly!
I pronounce “Chicago” like this:
Chicongo.
The funny part is that this is a fulfillment center, meaning by walking off the job, all they have done is made sure their grandmothers don’t get their new portable oxygen bag or new external catheter until this weekend. Schadenfreude.
“I don’t care about the worker! I just want my STUFF - like, TODAY!”
Average Amazonian:
"Yassuh, mistuh Bezos, shore did like that d*** pic of yours on the cover of '14 Leadership Principles Reasons I Use To Sort Out And Only Hire Employees That Have No Idea Of Their Intrinsic Economic Value'."
If Amazonians ever figure out how simple tech work is once you have mastered code or a secondary skill like PM or Scrum, we will be putting on pants again. It's so hard to find the latter I ain't holdin' my breath, or laundering anything critical.
Do those people pee in jars so they don’t get hassled for bathroom breaks? There is a reason Amazon is always hiring...
Now you’re just making stuff up. ;)
As a native Wisconsinite, even THAT beats some of our made-up-sounding places!
Exactly.
If the lock-downs and job losses taught us anything, it’s that ‘We The People’ are NOT going to just bend over and take what employers dish out, anymore.
And here our ‘betters’ thought it would make us more compliant. ;)
As you know, it doesn't matter much what most of the states want, Portland-Eugene dominate. It's a long shot for Christine, but crossing fingers and praying.
“Hopefully, Christine Drazan, will win. That is tough in Oregone with the Portland/Eugene area votes, real and not real but counted.”
For close to 2 decades we have seen pseudo California moderates/conservatives move to Oregone and become liberals apparently overnight. The reality was/is simple, they had never been moderates/conservatives. They lied to everyone until after they moved to your state.
The latest flip flopper is an adopted 40+ something daughter of conservative friends, who moved to a liberal area outside of Portland. She told her parents and adult kids, that sheeg was still a conservative. On her last trip home to California, she forgot to remove her Kotek bumper sticker. She is now a liberal teacher and dating a very liberal guy.
One of our conservative and younger relatives here in California has kept track of so called conservatives in California moving to Oregone and becoming full fledged liberals in their move to Oregone.
He knows of one, who reversed the role and became a conservative horticulturist in the Grants Pass area after moving to your state.
A conservative couple we knew, who moved to the Medford area for second careers have returned to the Chico area as their area before the fire had become liberal before the fire.
Hopefully, we will see a Republican Governor in Oregon, after your election.
