On Saturday, the Ukrainians hit the Kerch Strait Bridge, which leads from Russia to Crimea, with something—a missile, explosives planted by naval commandos, a truck laden with explosives. No one who knows is saying for sure.

The tactical questions of how the Ukrainians pulled off this strike and of whether lasting damage has occurred are interesting and important but currently unresolvable publicly. What can, however, be more profitably discussed is what this tells us about where the Russia-Ukraine war is headed.
“Battles are the principal milestones of secular history,” Winston Churchill wrote in his biography of the Duke of Marlborough. The strike on the Kerch Strait Bridge was not a battle, but it was an important contributor to one of the great inflection points of this war—the moment when Russian elites began to understand that they are losing.

The Kerch Strait Bridge attack, by contrast, inflicted at most a couple of casualties but packed multiple punches. It struck a prime symbol of the project of Russian imperial restoration, an expensive structure designed to link a Crimea reincorporated into Russia with the motherland. It damaged a crucial supply route. It showed that Ukraine could reach deep behind Russian lines to hit, with exquisite precision, a key and extremely well-defended target. It was, above all, a personal as well as a national humiliation: This was Vladimir Putin’s pet construction project, and it was the most unwelcome gift possible on his 70th birthday.

NO ONE can trust “The Atlantic”!!!!
They need to finish the deed on the standing span and railway, and in several different places.
You are the puppet here for Putin? The bridge has one span open for highway traffic but the other will be very difficutl to repair. The rail bridge took significant fire damage and may or may not be safe. But keep up your good work for your hero Adolf Putin, I guess someone needs to do it.
Is this a first? A sophisticated military power intentionally targeting a spectrum of infrastructure of an adversary nation simultaneous with targeting command and control? All in one day?
We weren’t THAT comprehensive in Iraq even during “shock and awe”, were we? Where is there another example at similar scale within the relatively recent time frame when these kinds of precision attacks have been feasible?
I do believe unless corrected, that we are seeing something novel.
Have you always been a Russian puppet or just like to kiss Putin’s ass?
Look you might not like how this conflict goes but conflicts are very much fluid.....Zelensky did NOT successfully destroy the bridge ....traffic was up.....however this attack on Kyvi's bridge did take a large section completely out....as well as many other bridges targeted.
You really need to stop calling anyone who disagrees with you a Putin Puppet - we all know those who resort to that have their backs up against a wall with nothing to debate or show otherwise. Just makes you look like a fool.
After Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848 and Gadsden in 1853, we didn't need any more.
You TROLLs will post any BS.
video at link of Crimea bridge reopened.
Rail is open. Auto is down to one lane at the damaged part

What we do know is throughout this conflict Zelensky has wanted NATO'S direct involvement more than they've been willing to give - an outright war with Russia. They will not give that to Zelensky as they know well what that would mean. Zelensky doesn't care - his mindset is completely on riling up the world to go after Russia as we've seen and heard him do time and time again.
Unfortunately Zelensky’s willing to see death and destruction throughout Ukraine to get what HE wants and is paid to get. NATO membership then they have to fight for Ukraine. Which is why he refuses to negotiate over and over again......and I believe he will see every Ukraine , soldier and citizen, laying in the street to obtain his goal.
Frankly Zelensky is why this conflict began and why it will continue.
So you’re comparison is invalid. Thanks for clearing that up.
Root for Putin or you’ll be a “globohomo”.
Wow Crank, you sure get testy when anyone criticizes your hero.
Confirmed: Trolls will always be trolls.
I guess Putin will have to find someone new as head of his attack dolphins.
Putin is the hero of small men everywhere.
Here is short animation with pictures of the damage. There is some damage to the roadway that didn’t collapse(roadbed bent down). Also zoom in to the train pier cap around 1:50 to 2:00. There appears to be significant heat damage to the outside pier, cap, and beam.
