It looks like the FBI is in for yet another scandal.
According to a new report from the LA Times, FBI agents busted into thousands of safety deposit boxes in California. After they rummaged through the private property of innocent people, it turns out they lied to a federal judge to get access to the boxes in the first place.
"The privacy invasion was vast when FBI agents drilled and pried their way into 1,400 safe-deposit boxes at the U.S. Private Vaults store in Beverly Hills. They rummaged through personal belongings of a jazz saxophone player, an interior designer, a retired doctor, a flooring contractor, two Century City lawyers and hundreds of others," the LA Times reports. "Agents took photos and videos of pay stubs, password lists, credit cards, a prenuptial agreement, immigration and vaccination records, bank statements, heirlooms and a will, court records show. In one box, agents found cremated human remains."
"Eighteen months later, newly unsealed court documents show that the FBI and U.S. attorney’s office in Los Angeles got their warrant for that raid by misleading the judge who approved it," the report continues. "They omitted from their warrant request a central part of the FBI’s plan: Permanent confiscation of everything inside every box containing at least $5,000 in cash or goods, a senior FBI agent recently testified."
Those who watch the FBI closely, particular the Bureau's political misconduct and persecution of conservatives, aren't surprised.
Afterall, it's the same FBI that lied to the FISA court in order to illegally surveil Trump campaign advisor Carter Page during the 2016 presidential election. Not to mention their most recent raid on Mar-a-Lago.
I agree with all the posters that this is gravely serious. Perhaps not quite as serious is that “safe deposit” is misstated as “safety deposit” endlessly, including in the article. It’s probably misstated more often than stated correctly
Some if the people who had millions confiscated include major Hollywood stars like Leo DiCaprio. These people had millions in jewels, lots cash, etc. It was stolen abd the FBI won’t give it back. I believe there’s a class action suit.
Empty and close out your safe deposit boxes. You’re better off burying it in the backyard.
Please review my tagline. That ‘splains it.
Yeah; only 0.01% are the bad guys, the other 99.99% are just the accomplices and getaway drivers!

Our ENTIRE JUST US Dept. is CORRUPT!! As is our ENTIRE GOVERNMENT!! NO ONE WILL BRING THEM TO REAL JUSTUCE!
One judge, calling in DOJ prosecutors, all the FBI agents involved to the court and question their lies under oath. Then send them all to jail for 90 days for contempt. That will put a stop to this skullduggery being practiced by these highwaymen thugs with badges.
Nice little safety deposit box you have there.
Be a shame if something in it blew up.
Lock them up!!!
“Last I heard (over a year ago) they aren’t giving people back their stuff, one couple’s retirement savings were in one of the boxes if I remember correctly.”
When the box is registered to a fake name it is hard to prove ownership.

The company admitted to having recruited as its customers drug traffickers and other criminals “who paid over $550,000 in cash and bitcoin in exchange for the anonymous use of safety deposit boxes to store the proceeds of their offenses, most often in stacks of $100 bills,’’ according to the agreement filed in Los Angeles federal court.
Box rental payments were made to U.S. Private Vaults with the company’s knowledge that the money came from the proceeds of the distribution of controlled substances and other crimes, the plea agreement states.
The company would deposit the cash with banks, using the money to pay its costs for maintaining the business, thereby promoting the distribution of controlled substances and other crimes by its customers, federal prosecutors wrote.
Benjamin Gluck, a lawyer for one vault customer, claimed the government is holding his client’s property “hostage” in order to force him to reveal his identity.

The US Attorney’s office said U.S. Private Vaults had some customers who are “honest citizens to whom the government wishes to return their property.

“Absolutely outrageous. What happened to freedom from unreasonable search and seizure?”
What happened: Criminal money laundering using fake names.
Did you watch Ozark?
The U.S. government is a criminal organization from top to bottom.
That's because they know they'll be the next on the 'to be raided' list.
Banks are not private entities? Hmmm... That's a new one on me.
I see nothing at all wrong, or even weird about storing stuff in safe deposit boxes run by a company that specializes in such things. Indeed, there didn't seem to be any problems at all with the facilities until the government decided to rob them. Government criminals are absolutely the worst and most dangerous kind. Any attempt to resist their attempts to steal your property will result in overwhelming force being deployed against you. You'll be lucky if you or anyone in your family survives when the government has decided it wants to "make an example" of you. They really are as bad or worse than any mobster on the planet.
Another reason I’ve never had a safety deposit box...nor ever will.
