Wait a minute, people don’t hang around gas stations for hours. No?

Would sitting at charging stations for hours not mean their chances of them being victims of crime would increase dramatically?

In before the EV cheerleaders explain why this is a good thing

EV's should be a personal choice dependent on one's own unique circumstances. For most, they don't make sense. For others they might. I've never considered one until now. There is an EV coming to market sometime in the next couple quarters that makes perfect sense for my wife and I. It's the Aptera. It is a super efficient 2 seater 3 wheel autocycle unlike any other. Base model has a range of 250 miles. Three other models have ranges of 400, 600, and 1000 miles. The best and unique part of this EV is it is solar augmented. It is capable of delivering up to 40 miles of range from solar in one day. For many commuters this can mean completely free off grid travel. For us, a semi retired couple it makes perfect sense. Our electricity in central WA is 100% hydro. Our Kwh price is among the lowest in the world at $0.045 per Kwh. To charge our 400 mile range that we have preordered, from 0-100% would cost less than $2. My wife drives a total of 9 miles a day commuting to the bus barn where she drives a school bus. With the up to 40 free solar range per day she can basically drive all year for free. Check out this link if you're intrigued. If nothing else, it's an interesting engineering feat. It is unique in the automotive world. Aptera

Gas is cheap here I drove my hot rod around for fun today and we have some heat relief too. I opened up the sunroof and let my supercharged V8 rip. Took my dog to the park and saw a lot of V8’s out having fun

Is a woman or anyone else more susceptible to crime if they sits at a charging station for say 2 hours, as opposed to filling up in 5 minutes?

???

“I dont drive much and there is a lot to like about EV cars. But I have never paid more that 17K for a car. When they produce a EV with at least 200 mile range for less than 20K, “

Getting there. About $25k after rebate but you are buying a lifestyle as a low milage driver will not be seeing a dollar savings at today’s prices.

Would you want your teen, wife or son to sit at some charging station for hours? Would these charging venues not turn into easy pickings for criminals?

😅👍 There are stretches of road out here where you may not see anyone for 30 minutes.

I wonder how an electric car would survive the stretch of I-70 in Utah in which there are no services near the highway for 106 miles.

My wife and I drove "The Lonliest Road in America", US 50 from Carson City NV to Ely NV. Over 300 miles, and once you get past Fallon there's only two towns before Ely, Austin and Eureka.

One time we pulled over and looked down the road ahead, and the road behind. Reminded me of the "Road Runner" cartoon.

I wonder if there are any charging stations in Austin or Eureka...

“I don’t hate EVs in fact I find them to be intriguing but they’re at best a second commuter car.”

Depends on the situation. There are a lot of people that seldam if ever drive outside their local area.

In the last ten years my longest road trips have been 350 miles. I usually stop halfway for gas and a pit stop. Right where I stop is a Tesla Supercharger.

As far as I can remember, my brother has only once driven more than 110 miles from his home.

“Sorry boss, can’t make it in to work again today as I’m still in the line waiting with a near dead electric car “

Boss: If you are not smart enough to charge your car at home overnight you are too stupid to work for me. Fired!

Range anxiety is less an issue with select (high priced) vehicles like Mercedes EQ series or Lucid BUT if you need to haul anything you are far better off with internal combustion. That’s just the science. You end up needing bigger and bigger batteries that add more and more weight. Battery powered can’t compete with what you can get from oil in terms of energy/weight.

There’s a strong case for most car uses fitting electric. I don’t haul much these days but I need range for my road trips. Also millions and millions of Americans rent so can’t charge at night. I could charge at work.

Energy production isn’t there, the grid isn’t there. We’ve not done enough to invest in nuclear. I think only Georgia is building nuclear power and it’s behind and over budget. Fortunately GA power has stuck with it. Ironically the “green” Left is why we don’t have cheap and clean nuclear power more widespread.

Can’t put old traditional nuclear plants everywhere because of cooling needs but the technology and skill set in the US has been allowed to atrophy. China is going to pass us because of politics.

Unless you live in a house you can’t charge overnight anyway.
