Hurricane Ian
NHC/NOAA ^ | 23 September 2022 | NHC/NOAA

The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. These boxes are useful as predictors of hurricanes that will strike South Florida. For more information about Hebert's Boxes, see Hebert Box. See graphic below which illustrated the Hebert's Boxes.

When we came down in June the main walkway at lover’s key was being worked on; I’d imagine both are down now. Lover’s key is my happy place, and the place where someday my ashes (along with my angel fur babies) will be. Our daughter was married at Bowditch. So many memories; to be honest today I feel as if I lost my best friend. Our home was on Linda Loma.

I love Parrots Key, also the place next door (which has changed names at least 3 times that I know of over the years, now think it’s Shrimp Basket). We currently RV (the way my husband bought me off to move lol) and stayed at Ebb Tide/Oyster Bay across the street from Parrots. The park was for sale, so I doubt the owner will rebuild it. We were supposed to return next June, with the goal of finding a mobile home for vacations near Iona. We had seen a few on Zillow but wanted to see in person. We definitely need to get together when we come down. Please feel free to message me.

Yup, it happens.

Yesterday here was supposed to be mostly sunny and we had showers about every hour on the hour.

It was frustrating as I was counting on getting my laundry done and usually hang it out.

Having lived in CNY and WNY, and being no stranger to lake-effect snow, you do learn to not take the weather forecast as gospel. It’s a forecast, not written in stone on Mt Siani.

This photo breaks my heart. This is where we used to launch our kayaks (near Bunche Beach).

The only showers here in SE Tennessee are my sprinklers - I paid a LOT of money for grass seed and fertilizer to overseed, and I’m not going to let it die an early death.

We’re originally from Cleveland too. That guy was a staple on channel 8 (?) I believe.

Bare foundations... two blocks from the beach... in Ft. Myers.

While that’s terrible for the owners, it may actually be good news for the entire surge area.

It takes a lot, especially for a Florida engineered structure like that to collapse from the storm. I have to wonder if this may get reclassified, eventually, as a category five. Either that, or it was because of its slow moving status.

Well it was just 2 miles short of Cat5 so I don’t se any differnce...it was that when it hit. Basically is based on wind more than storm surge.
