Hurricane Ian
NHC/NOAA ^ | 23 September 2022 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2022 2:32:24 AM PDT by NautiNurse

The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. These boxes are useful as predictors of hurricanes that will strike South Florida. For more information about Hebert's Boxes, see Hebert Box. See graphic below which illustrated the Hebert's Boxes.

It’s going to take at least a decade for Fort Myers to recover from this, I’m afraid.

WFLA radio Tampa and its simulcast partners are covering the situation non-stop, talking to a variety of officials, reporters and ordinary people. Very detailed.

Just getting to this thread. Anyone here from Naples? I have some friends who are hunkered down there...wondering about the damage there, winds, etc.

After all this time, they are still getting 120+ MPH winds, and water is still pushing inland.

We lost so many birds in Ida last year. Only partly recovered.

My sister’s BIL is in Ft. Myers, no power, winds are the worst he’s seen. Native Floridian, so not his first rodeo.

Chasers tried to get down there from Punta Gorda, but the surge still covered roads. They hadda turn around a go back.

I cannot imagine anything has happened like Fort Myers/Cape Coral. A direct hit with a extended period in the Eye Wall on the dirty side of the storm. I cannot imagine being many inhabitable houses after this.

We’re talking this may bankrupt insurance companies.

Wow, I was right: there may not be much of Fort Myers left intact after this storm. My guess of looking like after the 1900 Galveston hurricane may not be far-fetched. 🙁

It was quit surprising. We’re in the marina between a 50+ ft power boat and at 45+ ft motor-sailer. We didn’t even feel the tornado.

It’s a bit bouncy and roll-y now. We survived Matthew, Irma, Michael, and, Eta. We’ll be ok.

Yeah, time overhead / loitering... is an exponential factor when related to bad weather systems.

I just checked, the Metro Population of Fort Myers/Cape Coral is almost 800,000!

It took Rockport, Texas about three years to recover from Harvey. Still some junk laying around.
