Vladimir Putin appeared poised to go all-in on his war in Ukraine today, sparking fears of an escalation in fighting that could drag in NATO and spark World War Three.
In a day of rapid-fire developments, Kremlin stooges in Ukraine's Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions simultaneously announced referendums on becoming part of Russia between September 23 and 27, with the sham votes expected to easily pass.
Dmitry Medvedev, a staunch Putin ally, then vowed 'all forces of self-defence' will be used to protect what he called 'Russian territory' - teeing up a new phase in the conflict involving weapons and tactics the Kremlin has so-far held in reserve.
Underlining that point, Moscow's rubber-stamp parliament passed new laws paving the war for Putin to end his 'special military operation' and officially declare a war, allowing him to mobilise Russia's massive population into the army.
It comes after Ukraine humiliatingly routed Putin's forces to the east of Kharkiv and recaptured a swathe of territory, with the despot's allies, propagandists and political hardliners calling for an escalation amid calls for the president to resign.
Putin was said to be preparing an address to the nation tonight, Russia's national broadcaster reported, without giving any further details.

No, he's trying to get the rest of the Western powers to back off, for fear he might do something desperate, which he's not going to do.
President Trump that is War..and War may well come the shores of the United States..I could see a limited exchange of Nukes on the Eastern Seaboard....
That's not at all germane to Trump's quote provided to you about Russia promulgating a holocaust upon the Ukraine, and the US needs to stop them.
“Ukraine does not want to be part of Russia”
Seems to me that parts of Ukraine do want to be part of Russia. Regardless, we’ll know in a week or so.
Help us out. Where was Russia in 1945? Did it move to Africa? Was all of that fighting only happening in the matrix?
"We are a nation that allowed Russia to devastate a country, Ukraine, killing hundreds of thousands of people and it will only get worse. It would never have happened with me as your commander in chief. And for four long years it didn’t happen." - President Trump
What exactly was happening inside Ukraine up to Feb. 24th that ‘destabilized’ russia? Nothing. Were Ukraininans shooting down russian passenger jets (like Girkin shooting down MH-17)? No. Were they flooding russia with undesirable refugees (like Belarus was doing to Poland)? Also, no. Were they ridding themselves of Kremlin puppets like Yanukovich, and angling to join the EU? Yes. But that only ‘destabilized’ russia in the sense that it would show russian people that there was a better way for post-soviet republics to exist, than to be fiefdoms of mafia thugs and oligarchs. Ukraine was not, is not and never will be an existential threat to russia. The same way 1938 Czechoslovakia was no threat to Germany. Hitler, like putin, simply needed an external ‘enemy’ to consolidate and maintain dictatorial power. That is all.
“Where was Russia in 1945?”
It was a piece of another country, kind of like North Carolina.
Is that why the US has F-35s, F-16s, B-1 bombers with Chinese parts in them? I could go on.
Stop asking redundant questions when the mirror flips the other way.......
Patton also thought he fought in the Punic wars, and with Napoleon too. Believed in Antichristian reincarnation.
Some things he was very good, some things he was an idiot.
“We can see that with the expansion of NATO and the attempts to encircle Russia with NATO bases...”
You know, I assume, that NATO doesn’t go soliciting new members, but nations that want to join NATO come to NATO and apply. Just think: The vast majority of “new” NATO members are those countries that were under the Russian boot for decades, and they don’t want to fall under it again. They want nothing to do with Russia! That speaks volumes.
This all can be blamed on the steal in 2020.🙄
A coup in 2014, that's outrageous, Ukraine must be a military dictatorship with the same guy in charge, oh wait, that's Russia.
“Trump was PLAYED - he needed to kick the Neocons out of the State Department”
Alas, if Trump only knew what the all knowing Freepers knew!
Bravo.
Nothing you post will change the fact that Russia can’t manufacture precision electronics for advanced guidance systems, navigation systems, or sensors. Or that Russia’s economy is a basketcase to the point that they can’t even afford to employ their most advanced tanks and weapons in their own military, but manufacture them purely to export to other countries for cash.
Nor will it change the fact that the US can probably singlehandedly replace the Ukraine’s military three or four times over with just the equipment we have that is on its way to obsolescence.
Here come the Patton haters...
Yes, let me now your take the first time Russian hypersonic missile hits you sitting in your basement. You know, something we still yet to have...........
If only Trump would uncritically swallow Russian propaganda, he might be as enlightened as these FReepers are.
