Before going to work at MSNBC, Rick Stengel had been President Obama's Undersecretary of State for "Public Diplomacy." With the sort of "public diplomacy" Stengel displayed today, we're lucky he didn't touch off WWIII!
Stengel appeared on Nicolle Wallace's MSNBC on Thursday, just after Brits Katty Kay and Keir Simmons made moving and emotion-laden statements about the passing of Queen Elizabeth. Stengel proceeded to announce that he was going to make himself "the skunk at the garden party." And man, did he deliver!

Classless Rick Stengel accuses Queen Elizabeth of presiding over colonialism and apartheid, against which people revolted.
I’ll tell you something people find revolting: Rick Stengel.
Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.
he’s got a point... figure heads and all... we got one... and i ain’t proud of it.
No.
Get a job.
“there’s a weakness in the American character that still yearns for that era of hereditary privilege which is the very thing that, that we escaped from.”
+++++
Well, we escaped from having a monarchy, but hereditary privelege, not so much.
This IS my job!
How do you think I afford this? :-)
Didn’t he used to be with Time magazine?
People are making a lot of baseless charges against the Queen. England led the way in banning slavery and the transport of thereof back at the beginning of the 19th century. During her reign colonialism ended and many places were given self-rule, and yet she is to held responsible for many things she was never a part of and had no control over. The Sovereign does not make policy in England or rule as a dictator.
There is just no respect anymore for anyone, including a woman who served as Queen for 70 years and did so with duty, honor, and devotion to country everyday she lived. I am saddened by her passing.
I know it must surprise Stengel to learn that it has been more than a century since the British monarch set policy. Holding the late Queen responsible for whatever complaints one might have with the actions or policies of the British Empire seems to be somewhere between silly and stupid.
The Brits affection for their monarch is similar to Americans affection for their flag. Just as the flag is only a piece of cloth, Elizabeth was simply a great-grandmother but each nations love for their symbolic identity is not subject to reason; it’s the affection of love.
A bony chick with greasy hair?
You can score a dozen of them in most trailer parks.
Bring a three piece chicken box with roll.
No need for plagiarism. Just chicken.
Spot on: before going to work for Obama, he had been Time’s managing editor. No real change in his editorial opinions!
Such an elitist, humble!
You sound just like James Carville.
We began discussing how Brits deal with politics and how Americans do. She explained to me that Brits easily put political differences aside, especially in times of loss and crisis. This explains why Brits of all ages, races and political persuasions have overwhelmingly treated the Queen's death with sadness and respect.
I told my wife that I was betting that over the next few days that leftist asswipes in America would start mocking and insulting Queen Elizabeth and crap on her memory by accusing her of every negative "ism" in the world. Sure enough, here we go. . .
Man do I loathe leftists. . . ignorant, low-class filthbags of the lowest order.
The queen was the epitome of class and dignity. These slobs hate her because she represents Western Civilization.
Beautiful.
Being from East London, I’m guessing your wife knows some great Cockney slang.
Not that she’d ever be ‘trouble n’ strife.’ :-)
Hmmph.
That guy wants to drag a hundred bucks through the trailer park.
Me, I’m talking about the three-piece special with roll.
That’s like five bucks tops.
Every MSNBC chump is merely a reflection of the scum running Comcast
Who does this supercilious guy think he is? Someone ought to ask him why he thinks he’s so much better than Queen Elizabeth and has accomplished so much more good for the world than she has.
Apparently, he’s not smart enough to figure out that there are other reasons for the coverage, such as that for 70 years she ruled a country whose history is closely connected with that of the United States. There are other good reasons too, but he can’t figure those out either.
No.
Do as you're told, you insubordinate wretch.
