Europe plan for floating gas terminals raises climate fears

NEW YORK (AP) — As winter nears, European nations, desperate to replace the natural gas they once bought from Russia, have embraced a short-term fix: A series of roughly 20 floating terminals that would receive liquefied natural gas from other countries and convert it into heating fuel.

Yet the plan, with the first floating terminals set to deliver natural gas by year’s end, has raised alarms among scientists who fear the long-term consequences for the environment.

Some scientists say they worry that the floating terminals will end up becoming a long-term supplier of Europe’s vast energy needs that could last years, if not decades. Such a trend could set back emission-reduction efforts that experts say haven’t moved fast enough to slow the damage being done to the global environment.

“Building this immense LNG infrastructure will lock the world into continued reliance on fossil fuels and continued climate damage for decades to come,” said John Sterman, a climate scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Natural gas contributes significantly to climate change — both when it’s burned, becoming carbon dioxide, and through leakages of methane, an even more potent greenhouse gas. Yet European nations, which for years have been leaders in shifting to cleaner energy, have proposed bringing more than 20 floating LNG terminals into their ports to help compensate for the loss of Russia’s natural gas.

Italy, Greece, France, the Netherlands, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Slovenia and the U.K. all have one or more floating LNG terminals planned, according to Rystad Energy.

How many angels can dance on the point of a pin? This is the kind of discussion supposedly learned people are having about the effects on “climate change” they claim to see at every juncture.

Natural gas is mostly methane, the cleanest burning hydrocarbon fuel available. Two water molecules and one carbon dioxide molecule are produced with the combustion of one molecule of methane. Every other hydrocarbon fuel produces a proportionally greater amount of carbon dioxide molecules to water molecules when combusted.

Carbon dioxide has wrongly identified, in my estimation, as the causative agent in anthropogenic global warming. By its very nature, and due to the very real statistic that CO2 makes up only a very small percentage of the total gas molecules that go to make up our atmosphere, no measurable impact on climate conditions can be determined. If you want to see a “greenhouse gas” that has a VERY real impact on climate, look no further than the water molecule, which under prevailing terrestrial conditions, can exist as a solid, a liquid, and a gas, all simultaneously. Under the same conditions, carbon dioxide only exists as a gas. A relatively heavy gas, that tends to lie in low elevations.

Just in terms of the amount in the atmosphere, water vapor is present at anywhere between 30 and 200 times the concentration of carbon dioxide, and is highly variable over time. Without this presence, we would have no snow or rain, and in fact would quickly wither away and die, as the low or non-existent humidity resulting would suck the very moisture out of our bodies. Great for preserving mummies, but not so much for preserving life.

That is exactly what Tucker Carlson monologue was about Monday night. I watched it last night on YouTube.
European countries are stating that there WILL be black outs of electricity this coming JANUARY. That during the coldest month of the year there will not be enough electricity to meet demand. So, people need to prepare for it. A real energy shortage.

Keep in mind that many buildings in Europe are not up to energy standards like a building built in the USA since 1990.
Many of these buildings are made of stone/brick. They are centuries old. They are much harder to heat than most houses in the USA/Canada.

I'll be glad when these countries start saying STFU when the enviroweenies raise their heads.

You could tell them the fuel would just magically appear in their homes and they would start a crusade against magic.

They are okay with people dying from the cold or heat as long as it satisfies their silly made-up climate agenda.

70% of British pubs are closing because they can’t afford heating bills. Thousands are going to die from the cold this winter. And they’re whining about emissions. They DO NOT CARE ABOUT HUMANS.

So the euroweenies are concerned about LNG use wrecking
the environment. Well they're about to experience some
real environmental wreckage when people start chopping
down trees to burn wood to heat their homes or even to cook.

The use of natural gas has done more to preserve the
environment than any of the weird proclamations of
the "save the earth" fanatics.

Lock up these idiot “scientists” in an unheated house in North Europe for a winter, and let’s what happens to their concern for the “environment”.

“Natural gas contributes significantly to climate change”

No, it doesn’t.

…and even if it did, this is just replacing the same amount of gas, from one supplier to another.

These articles are not driven by logic, they are attempts at emotional manipulation, ultimately driven by the FSB effort to cause the West to disarm and weaken itself, using its covert agents, and whatever useful idiots they can muster to their cause.

Be funny if Russia says off an underwater nuke and floods out those terminals.

That’s quiet the dilemma socialist libtards have created for themselves.

This is why stupid sucks. You have to choose between death and self destruction. There is no other line of thought or reasoning.

Natural gas contributes significantly to climate change

Why should I accept such a statement from a branch of "science" that hasn't gotten a prediction right in 50 years?

Gazprom, the Russian natural gas company, just declared a record dividend. Western investors won’t receive it because their shares were frozen by sanctions and Russia was banned from the global payment system. Under Biden, Russia prospers, America suffers.
