McConnell Hosts Fundraiser For 3 Trump-Backed Senate Candidates – Now Says They Have “Good Chance Of Winning

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell hosted a fundraiser in Kentucky for Trump-backed Senate candidates Mehmet Oz (Pennsylvania), Rep. Ted Budd (North Carolina), and Herschel Walker (Georgia).

This comes after McConnell seemingly attacked the Trump-backed senate candidates questioning the candidates’ quality.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) acknowledged Thursday that the GOP may not retake the Senate during the November 2022 midterm elections.

“I think there’s probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate,” McConnell told reporters in Kentucky. “Senate races are just different, they’re statewide, candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome.”

“In the Senate, if you look at where we have to compete in order to get into a majority, there are places that are competitive in the general election,” McConnell said. “So, you can’t nominate somebody who’s just sort of unacceptable to a broader group of people and win. We had that experience in 2010 and 2012.”

McConnell downplayed this being anything out of the ordinary saying he does “this every August”. ” He explained, “I picked these three because I thought they were in critical states and had a good chance of winning.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Monday touted the prospects of three GOP Senate candidates backed by former President Donald Trump, despite the rift between the two Republican leaders.

Mr. McConnell‘s efforts underscored his view that taking back the upper chamber was more important than his run-ins with Mr. Trump. However, it also came after Mr. McConnell recently expressed concern — without mentioning any names — that “candidate quality” could jeopardize the party’s ability to retake the Senate.

Is McConnell changing his tune?

McConnell had to be dragged kicking and screaming to support Republican nominees that HE didn't want.

Because if they win despite McConnell being against them, then they're free to vote AGAINST McConnell for leader.

This is also a sign that McConnell knows they will win, and wants to be in their good graces ("hey I raised money for you, now vote for me for Leader").

McConnell is a pusillanimous snake, but we knew that.

On the surface it sounds like turtle dude is putting country before his personal animosity for Trump; something Lizard Cheney never could do.

It’s a step in the right direction. Now help other America First candidates like Blake Masters in Arizona beat Mark Kelly for senate.

While I want all three to win, I don’t think any of them will win. I think the Republican party did a terrible job picking Senate candidates. Hopefully Oz’s loss will show some people on this forum that Trump is not perfect. That loss will be squarely on him.

“Senate races are just different, they’re statewide,

Which means that the voter fraud in large cities impacts all senate races, but only the house races in or overlapping with large cities.

As an Independent who spent one election cycle (1964) as a Democrat and the following 20 as a Republican, I cannot say it gives me any pleasure watching the GOP being torn apart by their current ‘civil war’. However I have to say I am not surprised.
It is probably pretty hard to support the GOPe/Vichy faction of the party if you are a MAGA and vice versa.

For an old guy like me, it is pretty easy since I will only vote for an America First candidate.
An America First candidate of either party.
Even though they are scarce in the Republican party and damn near non-existent in the Democrat.
