Arizona Republican Senate candidate Blake Masters softened his tone and scrubbed his website's policy page of tough abortion restrictions Thursday as his party reels from the Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
In an ad posted to Twitter on Thursday, Masters sought to portray his opponent, Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly, as the extremist on the issue while describing his own views as "commonsense."
"Look, I support a ban on very late-term and partial-birth abortion," he said. "And most Americans agree with that. That would just put us on par with other civilized nations." (Late-term abortions are extremely rare, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tracker.)
Just after it released the ad, Masters' campaign published an overhaul of his website and softened his rhetoric, rewriting or erasing five of his six positions. NBC News took screenshots of the website before and after it was changed. Masters' website appeared to have been refreshed after NBC News reached out for clarification about his abortion stances.
"I am 100% pro-life," Masters' website read as of Thursday morning.
That language is now gone.
Another notable deletion: a line that detailed his support for "a federal personhood law (ideally a Constitutional amendment) that recognizes that unborn babies are human beings that may not be killed."

Science says a human being begins at conception.
i really think it wouldn’t be an issue if they weren’t going with these draconian total bans/ no exceptions...im sorry, to the average person, that just sounds crazy....
Well you had your chance during the primary. You screwed up. Put on hour big boy pants and vote for who won. We can’t afford to play games.
Folks,
DON’T EVEN VOTE IN ARIZONA in November.
It’s all rigged anyways. :-)
How about, “No one with a soul supports abortion?”
Murder is murder. Our nation needs to accept that fact!
Mark Kelly is living proof that going into space does sap one’s brainpower.
I’m betting this guy was a Commie imbecile before he went into space.
WTF?
How is the GOP "reeling" from the SCOTUS decision?
Side-splitting laughter & joyous celebration is a more realistic description...
Any guppie that is "reeling" is not a Republican... Just a fellow-traveling RINO scumbag...
SMH
Agreed. In this campaign you have to remember the "extreme" is where they are working. They are trying to portray with their talking point that he has no compassion. It is always opposite day with the Demoncrats. Abortion is horrid in any form. It rips the limbs and dismembers the babies at all stages. Just remember that the pro-life gained ground when the late term abortion was debated. That is why I say go after this issue with using the imagery of a fully developed baby and how the rat party member wants that legalized and codified into law. Killing babies at 8 or 9th month gestation is what they want - no exceptions! Hit them hard on that point. It puts them on the defense.
Look at this way each side has to put each other on the defense. Rats have to defend KILLING full term babies 24/7!! Pubbies have to defend end all abortions! Who has a harder time IF their positions are laid side by side?
“Well you had your chance during the primary. You screwed up.”
I don’t live in Arizona. I’m just saying I’m done voting for RINO’s just because they have an “R” attached to their name. Blake may turn out alright but I’m tired of watching candidates turn wishy-washy once they get their foot in the door. If they start off that way it only gets worse.
Actually I don’t care. If he votes 50 percent the right way is better then a democrat zero times. You clearly don’t see the danger of a 52 seat democrat majority. The mess they will cause getting rid of the filibuster will be permanent damage to the country. Once the implement the voting act, makes DC and Puerto Rico states and adds to the Supreme Court, there is no going back from that. The only reason they didn’t the last two years is two democrats refused. Gain a fetterman and Ryan and it’s over. It’s not hyperbole either.
I didn’t vote for Masters in the primary because I knew he was this type - more Jared Kushner than Barry Goldwater. He’s got my vote in November no matter what, but the specter of upcoming fraud still looms large in Arizona.
Don’t believe this nonsense. I’ve seen numerous articles like this nitpicking GOP candidate’s websites
“Mastriano scrubs references to Trump!!!” was one of them. Rolleyes.
It’s BS designed to provoke the reaction you had, these scumbags are desperate and devious.
Correct. You move to the middle for the general. Fine.
I have complete trust in both Masters and Lake.
Folks, as happened with Ukraine, sometimes you need to look more at your enemies and what they are doing than at the candidate/issue. When Soros, Biteme, Botoxic, Bill Gates, Liz Clusterbomb Cheney-—just to mention a few-—are all in on Ukraine, I’m out. Doesn’t mean I love Pootie-poot, but it does mean there is something going on there that I CANNOT support.
Same here. When they come after Masters and Lake like this, well, as the great Rush Limbaugh once said, “They will tell you who they fear.”
These media articles are to push discontent.
Yep. Baris now says without qualification that Lake is ahead, perhaps comfortably. Says Masters still trails.
I wonder what the truth is. Not that I’m suspicious of anything MSM puts out or anything ...
If he’s truly getting squishy on abortion it will turn off his base and MAGA voters.
In my humble opinion,it appears that a state of war exists
against the Next generation. To wit,the jab, increased support for abortion(on the left),and all this indoctrination going in at all levels.
