I guess that is progress. More than a century late, Germany finally accepts the lesson of her defeat in WW I instead of whining about the Versailles Treaty and plotting a revenge war.

Looking at the casting I noticed a distinct lack of diversity. It will never cut it at the Oscars. /s

The 1930 film was banned in Germany by the Nazis when they came to power. Ironic that Germany has now done a remake. I actually prefer the TV version that was done in 1979 (the uncut version). This new one will probably have Saving Private Ryan level gore.

I just finished watching Deutchland ‘83 a week ago.It was quite good...but would have been better if it was dubbed in English (I hate subtitles).

From the book the German grunts supposedly chanted on marches;

“Give them all the same food
And all the same pay
And the war would be over
And done in a day”

Probably pretty accurate

My dad (b.1909) had the book AND the book “Wings”, which also became a movie. I read them both when I was about 7-8.

Dad’s stepdad was in WWI, so I was frequently asking questions of them regarding words/terms/etc. about what I was reading.

Learned a lot from those two books at a young age.
