Americans suffering under the crushing weight of historic inflation should be happy to know they can reduce their energy costs by weatherizing their homes, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said on "Fox News Sunday."
"If you are low income, you can get your home entirely weatherized through the expansion from the bipartisan infrastructure laws, a significant expansion — you don't have to pay for anything," Granholm said.
"If you want heat pumps, insulation, new windows, that is covered," she continued. "If you are moderate income, today you can get 30% off the price of solar panels. Those solar panels can be financed, so you don't have to have the big outlay at the front … it's a significant incentive."
Even Americans who don’t qualify can see some perks next year, she added.
"If you don't qualify for the weatherization program, you will be able to, starting next year, get rebates on the appliances and equipment that will help you reduce your monthly energy bill by up to 30%," she added. "That is all about reducing costs for people."
Critics on social media ripped the Energy Secretary for being so out-of-touch.

Low income people do not own homes. What a moron.
Gucci reserved for mostly peaceful #bsm “shoppers”?
You don’t need a wood splitter.
Just do it how Hollywood splits wood.
One swing and the wood just flies apart!/sarc.
Had a suburban friend didn’t understand why we had a sledge hammer and a maul to split (oak) wood and why didn’t we use the axe alone.
Pop gave him the axe. My friend swung at the log and barely indented it. Smiling, Pop said try again. My friend with same results.
Pop barely containing a laugh said:. What’s wrong? Didn’t have your “sugar tit” this morning?
Pop and I bolted out laughing and my friend turned red and found some place else to be.
At least Jimmy Carter preached conservation as a way of dealing with energy costs. These people have no concept of “conservation”, not when they prat about “spending money to save money” (well, dollars to save pennies).
Most of the elites who have been blabbing about heat pumps since the early-mid 80’s have no idea how those things work-or that they are NOT efficient at all in many places-this area of Texas is one of them-you need a real source of heat when the temp is below 40-50-wood, nat gas/propane, electric-not outside air that you still need electricity from some source to heat...
Thank you for pointing that out...
Ay, por favor senor-Granholm being just a tone-deaf dumbass doesn’t have anything to do with her sex-if it is, how do you explain the cluelessness of Majorcas, Fauci-or FJB himself, etc? Are males unreasonable, etc, etc and just there to compete with females? It is because they are all democrats and that is what they do, male or female...
#29 I watched a “This Old House” show from 2008 where they went to a home where the owner was bragging he gets his electric from solar panels and wind turbine. Each could produce 5kw. He had banks of batteries to store about 5kw for 10 hours. No mention of cost for that.
Total was almost $50,000 for solar panels and wind turbine !!
During filming the wind was not blowing so zero electricity produced. It was cloudy and he said the solar was producing 1kw....
He had a backup generator just in case!
He still did not get it. I bet he now owns a electric car!
This woman is STUPID and proud of it.
I am convinced that most of O’Biden’s appointments are meant to humiliate us.
“You can just hire people to carry you around on a sedan and not have to pay for gas.”
If you are earning only 60% of the median income, you can’t afford $7,000 for a heat pump (with the other $7,000 paid by the government), which **MIGHT** have a net savings after 20 years, or maybe never. The other “weatherization” like new windows, is probably BS because you might live in a home which already has double glazed windows which have been used for 90 years. “Tuning up” your furnace is unlikely to result in measurable energy savings - 2 percent maybe? it would improve the life of the furnace though.

“Heat pumps.
Do people really still fall for these gimmicks? When i turn on the heat I like, well, you know....HEAT! Not room temperature air blowing from vents.”
The A.C. in your house and car are heat pumps. So are your refrig and freezer.
Heating a house with a heat pump saves you money.
Sure, heat pumps work great and are efficient.... when the temperature is above 40. Go below 40 and heat pumps lose efficiency. Heating your house with a luke warm hair dryer...no thanks!

Most systems have backup strip heaters. Were you too cheap to get them?
If heat pumps are so great, then why the need for a backup system? Backup strip heaters literally are hair dryers heating your home. If you are in Texas, you don’t know what real winter is so I’m sure they’ll work for you. In the real world of real winters I’ll stick with real heat :)
