“Time to remember the best voting advice I’ve heard: Voting isn’t marriage; it’s public transport. You are not voting for “the one” who is absolutely perfect. You are getting on the bus. And if there isn’t one going exactly to your destination, you don’t stay home and sulk; instead, you take the one going closest to where you want to be.” I read this yesterday over on Bookworm’s blog. She does a weekly compilation of memes, cartoons, old photos, and things to think about. This is from her latest.
Two American Thinker articles about Dr. Oz, one by Rajan Laad and the other by Lynne Lechter, appearing yesterday as well, made me think.
I am not a Pennsylvanian, so I have no vote in the matter. As an American, though, I care very much about who my fellow countrymen over in the Keystone State send to the Senate. Dr. Mehmet Cengiz Oz is not my political cup of tea, for all sorts of reasons. Mostly, in the past, he hasn’t expressed views that are as conservative as I prefer.

If I could, though, I would vote for Dr. Oz. He is continuing the refreshing change of Republicans who are not career or dynastic politicians running for office. He’s a first-generation immigrant and a Muslim, proving again that it is the conservatives who have the biggest tent. And he’s not a lawyer. I understand the utility of having people who can read and understand laws participating in the creation of legislation, but 33% of the House and 50% of the Senate—really!
As a cardiothoracic surgeon and professor emeritus of surgery, Dr. Oz is a scientist, and we need more of those who can “follow the science”

Well said. If you don’t like him after his first term, primary him out. He has flaws, but I think he would side with Trump over McConnell.
Let's see what Dr. Oz does BEFORE we condemn him.
We need the Senate folks.
Voting isn’t a marriage.
I’m using that.
Unfortunately, enthusiasm is a big part of voter turnout. And it truly sucks if enthusiasm is paramount to desperation for those on the Right.
the author is Anony Mee?
Oz’s brother in law for all we know
This is sure to attract all the “I’m too pure to vote Oz” retards.
Should be fun.
So? The writer is speaking truth. Not voting, voting 3rd party or voting for Fetterman are not options. Get rid of every democrat then worry about RINos.
In one of the rare intelligent things that Donald Rumsfeld said when he was Secretary of Defense was, “You fight the war with the army you have, not the army you wish you had”, meaning the Republican Establishment led by Cocaine Mitch don’t like many of the candidates endorsed by Trump who have won their primaries, instead of respecting the Republican Voters and going out to support them in any way possible, they cry like a little beotch and take their money and go home to pout.
Just to be clear - I have posted many times, and I still believe, there is zero chance this bird can win a seat in the Senate.
But, if I lived in Pennsylvania I would vote for him, and I hope all FReepers who can vote there will do so.
He’s a fag.
Trump tried to make a go of it with the GOPe types, to a fault. He gave them the benefit of the doubt, and they stabbed him in the back.
When Oz got pulled over the line I swore I would never vote for him for a multitude of reasons…….but have you SEEN Fetterman? A clot shot stroked out Communist in gym clothes? PENNSYLVANIA…..wake up…..vote for Oz. If he is horrible then vote him out later.
I am going with the assumption that Oz is not a RINO, and will at least vote for MAGA. If I felt he was a RINO, then frankly at this point I see no difference between a RINO and Rat, and frankly I would rather see the Rat win to get rid of the RINOs. At least it would change to being a one-front war instead of a two-front one, like we have now.
Voting is NOT a marriage LOL, LOL, LOL I have one word on this comment, McConnell…….. sorry but McConnell being in office for DECADES sure feels like a marriage we CAN’T get out of!!!!
Best thing I’ve ever seen about the situation: “Voting is not a marriage.”
People put way too much emotional stock into their candidates (or into the candidates they hate). A politician is simply a human being making his living in government and can go one way or the other, depending on what he thinks people want. (Well, actually, what the media wants...)
But the basic point is that it’s all a numbers game. We need to get more numbers than they do, or we won’t have any input no matter how great our picks are and how much we love them.
But as the Psalmist said, “put not your trust in princes nor in the son of man.” Politicians are fallible human beings like all of us.
Regardless of his other pros and cons, I find it shocking that a person Oprah loves and who had him on a feature on her old show and pushed him to get his own show——would not be at 90% popularity with all parties.
The only thing is will he vote the right way? We’re not asking for him to head up any committees anyway. And that goes for Herschel. Just vote the right way when it comes time. That’s all a Senator does. It’s not a leadership position, unless you are Majority/Minority Leader. That’s why they make for poor Presidents.
