Mick Mulvaney, Trump's former acting chief of staff, said Monday that he hopes the former president does not run again in 2024, and if he does he loses the GOP nomination.
'We've got younger people, it's time for Donald Trump to sort of go to the sideline, continue to push the policies that made him so popular,' Mulvaney said on NewsNation's 'Banfield' Monday.
'We defined my party, but we can have all the policies without the baggage, so I hope he doesn't run,' the former GOP congressman continued. 'And if he runs, I hope he doesn't win the nomination for Republicans.'
………
'He may well be the only Republican who can lose to Joe Biden or any other Democrat in 2024,' Mulvaney said of Trump.

As far as I’m concerned. Donald Trump may as well be the nominee because I’m voting for him whether he’s on the ballot or not.
Without Trump—MAGA would be taken over by the likes of Mitt Romney and other Lets just get along Republican sell outs. They will talk Mega but act Prog. No—Maybe we need a NEW PARTY, a New Media, and maybe a new Nation.
CBS hired Mulvaney... Any Republican willing to trash fellow Republicans always has ready access to the ‘press’... I don’t know if that’s it - but it’s an easy path to a sinecure.
You tell me one time in his life that Donald Trump was ever content to step back and be an “influencer.”
The sh**storm tells you who they are terrified of and the length to which they would go to stop him. The sh**storm is the biggest endorsement Trump can get.
There are a fair number of people who honestly believe that Trump winning in 2024 is a major longshot. So, they support other candidates who would give them the same general policies but would be more likely to win.
You may think they're wrong, stupid, whatever, but that's what they believe, and that's why they don't want to see Trump run. Not because they're closet Democrats.
As today should remind Mick, there is no longer a Republican party apart from Trump. You support him, or you’re looking for a new job.
Someone isn’t going to get his old job back when Trump does win.
BTW
Did the FBI take Trump’s baggage when they raided his home?
What is it will all these SC Republicans? I think there is one loyal one named “Norman.”
Yeah, let’s go back to electing lawyers turn career government politicians since that’s worked out so well for the past 50+ plus years.
Lol
I'll support and vote for whomever gets the GOP nod, be it Trump, DeSantis, Pompeo, etc. That is two years away.
That said, in the interim, I support DeSantis. (Yale then Harvard Law, Naval Officer and Bronze Star awardee, articulate and accomplished, tactful and diplomatic yet sincerely unafraid to be a Traditional American.)
Any person who advocates conservatism in Washington DC will be inundated by a flood of leftist slander against him from the Democrats and the media, he will be sabotaged by commies in the permanent government, he will be sued across the country for his every move with each case heard before a commie judge, and he will be utterly abandoned by his own party. No one can withstand all of that without an exceptionally brash, tough, resilient, and self-confident attitude.
The latest GOP seppuku on the public airwaves.
Tell us what you really think, you disloyal, self-sabotaging turncoat.
I don't have any problem with someone who is tough, resilient, and self-confident, but that's not really what we're talking about. It's the "brash" part of it that is the issue. The first definition google gave me for "brash" was:
"self-assertive in a rude, noisy, or overbearing way.",
....which pretty much encapsulates what I see as the issue/problem. You can be tough, resilient, etc., without being an ill-disciplined loudmouth. You mentioned DeSantis, and he's an example of a guy who never picks an unnecessary fight, but fights all the ones that are necessary in a very disciplined manner. He's really good at that.
Part of what makes him so good at that is that he's actually sufficiently immersed in the details that he always knows more than the person attacking him. The problem I have with some of the "MAGA" attitude -- at least as I perceive it -- is that it is almost averse to someone who speaks well. And I get that to some extent -- it's a well-earned distrust of slick-talking elitists, and you get that with a lot of populist movements.
But dammit, I want my guy to be able to outsmart/outargue them without name-calling, etc.. Fight the fights that must be fought without alienating swing voters just because you think it is funny. And a lot of time, that's what's going on. Some of the MAGA types just want to high-five each other over creative insults without noticing that they're alienating voters we need to convince if we're going to win elections.
He’s saying to the Swamp, “See, I’m not for draining the Swamp. I want a job when you announce that you have taken over the government.”
Trump is once again finding out who his friends are.
Geez, what a loser … and now you know the reason why Mick didn’t know about the safe at Mar-a-Lago.
