The 80-year-old California liquor store owner caught on video opening fire at a would-be robber with a shotgun is now speaking out, saying "I did a lot of hunting when I was a little kid."
The incident early Sunday at Norco Market & Liquor in Norco, just east of Los Angeles, prompted the armed suspect to run out of his business screaming "he shot my arm off!"
"I would always protect my employees, my customers, myself. This instance, fortunately, I was here by myself, so I only had to worry about that. I took care of it and that was that," the store’s owner, identified by CBS LA as Craig Cope, told the station.
"I did a lot of hunting when I was a little kid," he added. "I'd put food on the table. So, I still remember things from a long time ago."

"Everybody works hard. They got bills to pay. These guys are going to come in and take it away from you. Not here." Cope told Fox11 LA that "there wasn’t much time to think about" the incident as it unfolded.
"When you point a gun directly at me and you are that close to me and I see what you are carrying I’m not waiting," he said.
The store owner also said the first indication he received that something was about to happen was when he saw the suspects "through the front door drive into this parking lot, but they didn’t park where a normal person would park, so that was a red flag."
"When I looked and saw them getting out of the vehicle, they got gloves, masks, a weapon, that just solidified the deal for me, I knew what was coming," he added.

He’s lucky being a business owner as they’re “allowed” to defend themselves. Most people on the streets in CA, are not afforded that same right.

In San Francisco a legally carrying citizen could step in a slippery pile of excrement on the sidewalk, get jabbed by a used narcotics syringe as they fell and their weapon discharge.
Lesson: weapons are dangerous.
Funny if the perp was shot in the rear end.
Then local news would say “ER doctors sent him to be assessed for brain damage.”
In order to prevent any of my limbs from being shot off,
always remember to AVOID holding up liquor stores.
Avoid this activity at ALL costs!

He’s a good shot, alright. I noticed when he fired that shotgun at the intruder, he barely even touched those stacks of asprin bottles on the upper left shelf.
No need to ruin any merchandise.

The instantaneous shot, the zero hesitation, good aim, and fearlessness staring down the barrel of that rifle...absolutely remarkable at any age! Most people without military training would freeze in fear.
