Republican leaders who worry that Donald Trump could hurt their midterm chances by announcing a presidential run too soon are hoping he'll be dissuaded from doing so by the prospect of losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal payments, according to an RNC official. But an RNC official told ABC News that as soon as Trump would announce he is running for president, the payments would stop because the party has a "neutrality policy" that prohibits it from taking sides in the presidential primary.

Joke post?
What is “hundreds of thousands of dollars” to a multi billionaire like President Trump?
The Dems must be gritting really desperate.
Chuckle.
I’d imagine that they would double down if he did. Him running as an independent would wreck the Republican candidate’s chances. And I doubt that he would win as an independent.
Radio Rino. Lol. Good nickname for that craven sycophant.
Sit down and actually read the article. They’re supposed to be neutral in the primaries, not the election.
Bullshit news story.
Knowing what we do on how the RNC has been operating for the past few years, I am not inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. What happened to the $208 million dollars that they raised under the guise of “STOP THE STEAL” as an example.
If you disagree, so be it.
I contributed to the Stop the Steal fundraiser. Is that the money they’re using to pay his legal bills? If so, it’s not the RNCs money. We sent it in to help Trump fight the steal, and they need to pay those legal bills.
says who??? feh...
The swamp is worried.
I agree, but there is nothing leftist to lose, imo.
.
That’s Ronna Romney.
This isn’t rocket science.
.
Agreed.
1)There’s no need to pre-empt DeSantis who can clearly see he’ll run and won’t want a primary fight. He might succumb to a drafting at a much later date, but not now against a guy he likes, admires, and emulates in many ways.
2) Announcing now might invigorate Ds.
This RNC stance is why I went indie and return donation forms with:
“I’ll reregister as R and contribute when the RNC supports Trump.”
RNC will get zero $ or support from me. Zero.
Trump laughs at pocket change.
Why is the RNC paying his bills and why is he taking money from the RNC.
If the Rs don’t nominate him, he might go Bull Moose. It wouldn’t be a smart move, but who could blame him?
“Don’t know that this will mean a great deal to Donald Trump, but if they take neutrality in an election, then why do they even belong to a party? Sounds stupid to me.”
What they mean is neutrality between Republican candidates.
That is worth repeating. Sending money to the RNC is a waste of money. They failed utterly in their #1 job -- protect the integrity of the election and have poll watchers and lawyers ready to step up to defend any Republican candidate if an election issue arises.
The RNC should have filed multiple lawsuits long before the 2020 election challenging things like how the private Zuckerberg money was spent, the legality of drop boxes, and so on. They didn't do a thing.
Don't waste your money!
I haven’t sent a dime to the RNC since they tried to shove JIBBERING JEB down my throat!
I make damn sure that I only send to INDIVIDUAL CANDIDATES on only their web sites, even then I check to make sure there are no ties to the RNC.
If the RNC wants money from me they can start defending the things that are important to ME, or they can just shove
JIBBERING JEBS GUACAMOLE BOWL UP THEIR ASSES!
That’s because the RNC is losing all their contributors.
