Jan. 6 Hearing Depicts Donald Trump as Content to Let the Riot Rage
Wall Street Journal ^ | July 22, 2022 | Scott Patterson

President Donald Trump spent hours in front of a television at the White House watching the attack on the Capitol unfold on Jan. 6, 2021, ignoring pleas from staff, supporters and family to call off the rioters—and even at times encouraging them—according to testimony Thursday at a prime-time hearing of the House committee investigating the attack.

“The case against Donald Trump, in these hearings, is not made by witnesses who are his political enemies,” said Rep. Liz Cheney (R., Wyo.), the committee’s vice chair, at the close of the hearing, the eighth and last of the current series. “It is instead a series of confessions by Donald Trump’s own appointees, his own friends, his own campaign officials, people who worked for him for years, and his own family.”

In a series of messages on his Truth Social social-media network after the hearing, Mr. Trump challenged the testimony. He called Ms. Cheney, a longtime political foe, a “sanctimonious loser” and said the committee presented “so many lies and misrepresentations.”

In more than two hours of recorded and live testimony, led by Reps. Elaine Luria (D., Va.) and Adam Kinzinger (R., Ill.), the committee portrayed a president sitting idly by, watching the events on television as he contemplated his own fate, while aides, family members and security officials grew increasingly fearful and pleaded for him to take action to quell the violence.

That violence continued for 187 minutes between Mr. Trump’s speech at the Ellipse near the White House and the release of his video message asking protesters to go home.

The committee played a recording of an interview with an unnamed security official working at the White House on Jan. 6 who testified that the Secret Service detail for Mike Pence grew increasingly worried as the attack escalated in the afternoon

Dem politicians in MY and MI were content to condemn thousands of seniors to their deaths, in the early days of covid.

But that’s no biggie.

Dems: ‘Don’t look over here, look over THERE! See that shiny object? Orange Man bad! Orange man bad!’

So now we’ve gone from “Trump egged on the insurrection” to “Trump didn’t make them stop early enough.”

THAT is their definition of “leading an insurrection?”

If the President does not act to quell a riot it's because he supports the riot. I will vote for anyone but Trump in the primaries and will sit out the general if he is the nominee.

Stop! I suspect that you wouldn't have voted for President Trump anyway.

He should have grabbed the steering wheel and driven over there to stop it?

It is not the President’s job to secure the capital. It is Pelosi’s job as Speaker of the House.

Wait I sec, I thought Trump was over across town giving a speech when the riot started. Watching the junk on TV I would have thought he was leading a charge with sword drawn up the steps. So, how is it, he was watching TV in the white house cheering on his supporters while giving a speech across town. Even Maddow of MSNBC asked a similar question.

So, since you will sit out the election if Trump is nominated, great, at least you will not be voting for the dem clown who will probably be The NoBama or the jerk from Cal.

Trump had given permission to use the national Guard before Jan 6 and also authorization by all federal LE to use whatever force necessary to keep the peace. He sent out a “sop” tweet 23 minutes into the riots. He was denied permission by the SS to go in person so as to pull them away. But Millay, Pelosi, the WDC mayor, and others in authority, unbeknown to him, were working against him.

Well he did try to hijack the presidential SUV to try to go and stop them. The Secret Service prevented him from his heroic attempt. Seriously do they think the people at the capitol were watching TV or listening to radio what exactly could he have done? I know maybe he could have asked for national guard to be present on the 6th. Oh that is right he tried that too.

True and no cross examination is allowed of any witness.

The entire deal is bogus from the get go.

The Dims turned their show trial over to a TV producer, which is the truth.

Why? Because unlike a real bipartisan investigation there is intentionally only one side, one narrative to be presented, and with TV production values to line it up - cut and paste it up - in the most public relations sort of convincing way to the TV audience.

That Liz Cheney consented (and was apparently thrilled) to serve on such an admittedly one-sided committee, shows - in spite of her protests to the contrary, that her Bush-cabal hatred for Trump has been driving her actions.
