The January 6 Committee’s eighth public hearing Thursday produced testimony that there was a “heated discussion” between then-President Donald Trump and the Secret Service during the Capitol riot — not that Trump tried to seize the wheel of the presidential vehicle.
The testimony was a significant step back from claims last month by former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson — based on hearsay — that Trump had tried to wrest control of the vehicle from the Secret Service.
Hutchinson’s claimed were immediately disputed by the Secret Service agents she named, Tony Ornato and Bobby Engel. Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA) cited Ornato claiming in an earlier interview that Trump had been “irate.” She did not mention Hutchinson’s claims.
Rep. Luria then cited another witness, retired D.C. Metro Police Sergeant Mark Robinson, who was not in the vehicle with Trump but was in the motorcade. Sgt. Robinson — who could only offer hearsay evidence — said on video that he heard that the president was “upset” and that there had been a “heated argument or discussion about going to the Capitol.”
Though Robinson, like all witnesses brought forth by the committee after months of closed-door depositions, was cited as a witness against Trump, his testimony actually contradicted Hutchinson’s testimony and undermined the hearing’s credibility.
Though Thursday’s hearing was billed as the committee’s last scheduled public hearing, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) said that it would resume public hearings in September. It has not resolved any of the numerous evidentiary problems that have arisen.

Interestingly, sometimes the hearings are on one of the tv’s in the gym I go to. For the most part, it seems like most of the talking is done by a few people on the committee, that just repeat the same stuff, and not a whole lot of Q&A with “witnesses”.
Not any.

That was their intention. Hollywood (and the DNC) knows better than anyone that a false accusation is much more effective than the truth when you slander someone.

As you say a sizeable number of the public believe it. Had a drag down battle with my BIL recently. His sole argument was,
are you not paying attention to the hearing.” I asked what hearings, the impeachment ones, they are over, no convictions, NADA one. This production on TV is just that, a Dem info mercial but then again he is what they are aiming at.
It would be interesting to ask and have your BIL explain what he has learned from the hearings. Even the folks on the committee have said that none of this is sticking to President Trump.
Everything has been hearsay. I guess your BIL is unaware of what that is.
Criminal trials are subject to rules of evidence that are intended to pursue truth and exclude unreliable testimony, conjecture and opinions. If you can stomach the committee conducting the show trial in congress, you will see what happens when structured proceedings are abandoned in favor of a chaotic witch-hunt. Unreliable facts get hyped, repeated and emphasized, then refuted, modified and eventually abandoned. But the damage has been done, and the lies are remembered, passed on, and become gospel.

Tell him to withhold judgment until he’s heard the Jan 6 hearings to be run be Republicans after the next election.
