Sure, Ron DeSantis could beat Donald Trump in 2024
Washington Examiner ^ | July 20, 2022 | Michael Barone

How inevitable is a third consecutive nomination of Donald Trump? Partisan commentators, when it suits their purposes, tend to assume it is so.

Republicans who remain supporters of the 45th president point to data showing he remains popular among his party’s voters. They also recall how loudly heralded attempts to deprive him of his first nomination, in 2016, foundered.

Democrats who regard Trump’s election as an inexplicable black swan event, or even a putsch, have an obvious interest in elevating his chances. So do the cable news channels, which, hungry for ratings, gave him the equivalent of billions of dollars’ worth of free advertising in the spring of 2016.

That interest is illustrated in the poll numbers. For Donald Trump remains unpopular with, if not anathema to, a majority of voters, including many who otherwise regularly vote Republican. That unpopularity is a sledgehammer they can use to attack all Republicans.

I don’t think there’s any question Trump is going to run again. And DeSantis, I don’t know if he will especially if Trump does. This quote from the Examiner is key though, in my opinion:

“[Trump’s] continued fixation on relitigating the 2020 election leaves him vulnerable to a DeSantis brimming with critiques of the present and programs for the future. DeSantis, as Dexter Filkins’s perhaps unwillingly positive portrait in the New Yorker indicates, is smart, hard-working, disciplined, and eager to win fights, citing chapter and verse, over hostile media.”

This is applicable in the general election as well. If Trump is the nominee his opponent will excoriate him for his 2020 obsession.

It really doesn’t matter if one believes 2020 was stolen from Trump or not (obviously I don’t but again that doesn’t matter). The fact of the matter is, outside the friendly “conservative” safe spaces like FR, Telegram, Gabb, and Truth Social, the rest of the country (about 60%) are *tired* of what they, rightly or wrongly, perceive as whining from a man who lost an election almost 2 years ago.

One would know this, if one goes outside one’s comfort zone and actually *talks* to such people.

So the quote above is reality, and a serious hindrance to Trump if not in the primary in the general. It’s just the reality of the electorate. One can believe what one wants, but “Republican support” for Trump represents at most 40% of likely voters in this country. And you can’t win an election with only 40% voting for you.

That’s not a conspiracy, it’s just math.

Sure a lot of Democrat hacks lobbying for Ron DeSantis.

Dems fear DeSantis, my FRiend.

They will lobby for the likes of Cheney, Willard, Kasich, Jeb. and etc.

That's me as well.

I'll very likely be supporting, campaigning, contributing, and voting for DeSantis in my great state's primary.

If Trump wins our party's nom, I'll be supporting, campaigning, and voting for him, and not complaining or looking back.

I think that conservative values are more likely to prevail with a candidate who doesn’t have the baggage and incite the amount of vitriol that Trump has.

Yes, because that worked so well before President Trump come on the scene. /s

Did you even watch the security videos from election day into the next day that the Democrat party was not aware of in Fulton County, Georgia?   It showed the counting being shut down and all the pole watchers sent home on a ruse with the counting to continue the next day, only to show the Democrat partisans remove tubs of ballots from hiding places and resume the count with no witnesses.   Were you aware in Georgia that Stacey Abrams had sued the State of Georgia with accusations that our election Laws were unfair?   Just before the election our Secretary of State signed a Consent Decree with the Court to settle the suit that enabled the Democrat cheating, unconstitutionally usurping legislative statutes.

The new law (Election Integrity Act of 2021, known in the legislature as SB 202,) also capped the number of drop boxes at one per 100,000 active voters in each county. As a result, the number of drop boxes in Cobb, DeKalb and Fulton counties decreased from 87 in 2020 to 20 last year.
The drop boxes were outside and unattended in the 2020 election and the current law moved all boxes into the poling places where they are locked up after hours when pole workers are not there.

It seems easy for you to make claims that the election was not stolen when you ignore the facts staring us all in the face.

Nice try, sleeper troll. The POTUS is not a legislature unto himself any more than Florida’s governor is. You from the USA?

Then why are all the stories hyping a nonexistent Trump-DeSantis rivalry coming from the liberal and never-Trumper media?

I don’t see how any claims that the election wasn’t stolen hold up in the face of the blatant statistical anomaly of 93 percent of registered voters “voting” November 2020.

Yeah, in fact, I’m in Florida, and everyone here knows the legislature sucks and only acts due to what DeSantis is doing.

They are the butthurt ones who most here never took their plaints and bleats seriously. A mere distraction, actually.

At this point, I’m not about ‘baggage.’ I’m ABOUT a STOLEN 2020 ELECTION and getting payback. I want his second term and I want a re-energized and take-no-prisoners President. ONLY then will I entertain a discussion of successor.....

It is implied in your post:

“For Donald Trump remains unpopular with, if not anathema to, a majority of voters...”

Not necessary to read any further than that preposterous assertion, which came early. I mean, when you are required to build a fake narrative, the lies have to start immediately.“

If it’s not one, it’s the other. That’s typical FR logic. I get that crap all the time; I make a comment and all of a sudden I am Biden’s biggest supporter. How does it feel?

“It is implied in your post:”

You said: “So, you think he is wildly popular with all American voters?”

I will be generous, prick, and draw back from asking you where I said that to asking you to point out where and how I IMPLIED that in that post.
