House GOP lawmakers applaud Pence for his role on Jan. 6

House Republican lawmakers applauded former Vice President Mike Pence for his actions on Jan. 6, 2021, giving him a warm reception as he spoke to members of the conservative Republican Study Committee on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) thanked Pence for showing courage that day, sources in the room said.

“He was congratulated for showing the courage that he did on January 6, and frankly, everyone in the room clapped, myself included,” said Rep. Dan Meuser (R-Pa.). “It was, of course, what he should have done. I mean, it was the constitutional thing to do.”

Pence’s ceremonial role presiding over the joint session of Congress on Jan. 6 to certify the Electoral College count from the 2020 election cemented President Biden’s win.

Then-President Trump had pressured Pence to unilaterally reject Electoral College votes from certain states that Biden won so that Trump would be found the winner. Trump had falsely claimed there was mass fraud in several states that led to his legitimate loss.

On Jan. 6, 147 lawmakers voted to object to the electoral results, including many members of the Republican Study Committee and its chair, Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.). At the time, Roy argued against objecting to the votes.

The topic of the 2024 presidential election came up in the meeting, Meuser said, but added that Pence’s focus was on the 2022 elections.

When we all voted back in 2016, we weren’t voting for Pence (in our house, we did not care for him) but we were voting for President Trump. Will not vote for Pence. But, if Pence is the nominee put there by the RINO Republicans and the RNC, it tells me they WANT the Dem to win because they know a lot us won’t vote for Pence if we vote at all.

The Big Steal was BIPARTISAN.

AZ and GA could not have been stolen without Republican assistance.

Is Mike Pence held in high regard among many Republicans? I know we hate Mike Pence here on free Republic, but not sure how populsr he is out in the rest of the world. He’s being talked up as a 2024 presidential contender in the media.

I live next door to Indiana and never heard much about Pence before Trump selected him as VP. Flubbing the Corona mitigation isn't likely to earn him any brownie points...

He did the right thing. He fulfilled his role according to the Constitution.

If the VP role is to rubber stamp election certification, as some contend, why is that role even needed?

What do you mean by “Republicans”? If you mean that particular wing of the Uniparty, they sure do love him.

He didn’t wimp out. He merely showed his true colors, and not for the first time in his career.

Rubber-stamping fraudulent votes is not his job nor the right thing.

Quite a few of these same people were responsible for the Kenyanesian Usurpation, from which all of the stuff done to Trump flows, including the Big Steal.

And we know this group did it to Nixon both in 1974 and in 1960.

They all come from the same corrupt group that's been controlling Washington DC since the 1830s.

Disagree. If the Founders wanted to use a rubber stamp, they would have put "rubber stamp" into the process.

They were men, and they expected men to behave with honor and integrity, not as a pussified wet noodle.

But you would vote for Biden and or Hillary?

If Pence is the nominee, I would tell everyone I am voting for the Democrat, but then I would probably just stay home.

House GOP lawmakers, Doodledawg and maybe rintintin to name a few.

Pence's role, to them, was to rubberstamp an obviously flawed if not illegal election. Becoming more apparent everyday.

The milquetoast VP and his panting lapdogs thought it was is his Constitutional duty to rubber stamp whatever came across his desk, no matter what.

They're too stupid and blinded by hatred to know what kind of precedence they've set...

You know like Kamala Harris rubberstamping flawed election results or a foreign born President kind of precedent.

You do know there were objections raised during the process and they were all eventually dismissed and the VP read the votes into the record.

After all that has been revealed about Jan 6, I find it very disturbing that they applauded him...

Esp. Chip Roy—who I thought wore a white hat. He is always carping about the border invasion that PENCE facilitated by plowing the road for the big steal... Sheesh!
