Military families recommending the service to family members plummets -poll

The pay is low. The prestige is falling. The housing is often dilapidated and roach-infested. You move around a lot and your children constantly have to say 'goodbye' to their friends. The wars are lost and the border stands unguarded from invaders. The indoctrination is pure wokesterism, advising you that you're the bad guy and the flag you serve under is worth taking a knee. You take a vaccine known to harm young people, or else. You shower with unreconstructed transgender individuals. You watch as your highly bemedaled top commander doesn't bother with basic military fitness regulations required of you. The consultants get their big-dollar military contracts. You? You just aren't as important.

I’m an honorably-discharged USMC veteran with five adult sons. Military service in my family goes back to the American Revolution. I discouraged all of my boys from military service. None of them joined up. I’m glad they didn’t.

All true and unfortunately exactly what the liberals want. The destruction of the military as the world’s strongest fighting force. They want a small Euro-style do-nothing military.

In my small rural county with 3 small high school totaling less than 250 graduates each year, there used to be 15-20 enlistees each year. This year, only 3 enlisted.

I’m a Viey/ColdWar veteran.

There is no good reason for any American citizen to join the military, at this time.

There is no clear enemy, no clear crusade, and that ain’t no clear determined, ‘last day when the enemy no longer exists’.

The U.S. military has become the international SWAT team!!

The triumverate of Biden, Harris, Pelosi, the three in the line of succession, have no idea what’s going on in the wide wide world of 2022.

At this rate next year they are going to have to institute the draft.

But don’t worry, Rino’s will take the lead so that Brandon doesn’t have to take the heat.

without your consent?

In all cases except for the Navy Reserve, the minimum age permitted is 17 with parental consent in writing.
Those 18 and older are permitted to join the military without parental consent. The Navy Reserve minimum
age is 18. Federal law says no military branch can enlist someone over the age of 42; however each service
may set their own policy below that age limit.

“At this rate next year they are going to have to institute the draft.”

Quite possibly so, but there will be tremendous opposition, especially because the Ukraine war is such a ridiculous monstrosity, brought on by the total incompetence and disloyalty of this administration, that we should all run screaming from it.

What surprises me about this thread is that everyone agrees with the idea of not encouraging American young people to join the military, even though many of us here are either former military or were very strong supporters of military recruitment. Indeed, we are the group of patriots who are most likely to encourage young people to join. With the negative PR work this abominable administration has done, we’ve been lost. That means just about everybody else’s also been lost.

My nephew was an aircraft mechanic. He put in his 25 years and split, ignoring all the “bonuses” the USAF offered him. He said a lot of guys his age just decided to hang it up and go private sector. He also said something about planes falling out of the skies because the trainees were, for the most part, dumb as rocks.

I’m a retired Air Force officer, the son of a retired Air Force officer who started out as an E1, the grandson of two men who served in the military. The great grandson thrice removed from two men, one an officer and the other an NCO, who fought in the Revolutionary War. Until the last five years, I enthusiastically recommended military service to almost every person who asked my opinion. Not anymore. I’m tempted to apologize to the young judge advocate who is the last one I recommended service to. I ended up telling him to stick to the principles his parents and grandparents taught him, no matter what the indoctrination his superiors made him sit through.

Some of us O-6s didn’t get stars precisely because we weren’t what you describe.

Let's make this a major campaign issue!

DeSantis, a fellow Vet (Bronze Star IIRC) and a Navy Reservist is in especially good standing to make this a central issue.

Above and beyond the Social/Political/Woke shit show currently happening I was making young people aware of a different reason to possibly not join.

Fully 90% of currently serving Army have a Combat Patch. I joined the Army in 1972, retired in 1992, and EVERY promotion I ever competed for beyond E3/PFC was against soldiers with a Combat Patch. You have to be even better and, in most cases it won’t matter because the people sitting on your promotion board will also have a Combat Patch.

I was a MSG/E8 and selected to attend the USASMA when I got mine.

When they have to pass a conscription act and reinstate the draft, the left will get the blame.

A shrinking standing army is not a bad thing at all.

I also read that military aged Americans are loathe to serve under a Commander In Chief as corrupt and perverted as Slobbering Joe.
