Central Pa. theater cancels premiere of Mastriano movie

A Lancaster County movie theater has canceled showings of an independent movie featuring prominent right-wing Pennsylvania figures, most notably State Sen. Doug Mastriano, the Republican candidate for governor, according to LancasterOnline.

The movie, billed as an exploration of the populist right movement in Pennsylvania, was supposed to premiere July 16 at the IMAX theater in the Penn Cinema on Airport Road in Manheim Township. But the venue management cancelled it following pushback from members of Lancaster Stands Up, the newspaper reported.

The group Lancaster Stands Up started after the 2016 election of Donald Trump as “a vehicle for everyday people to have a political voice,” and to preserve democracy, according to their website.

The theater, Penn Cinema, told Lancaster Stands Up according to a statement: “We did have plans with the group, but once we learned of the nationalist populist agenda, we canceled the event.”

Mastriano has been out there front-and-center fighting the Wolf Regime for the past two years, when few others dared step forward, trying to save small businesses across the state that were crushed, and you call him an "attention-seeker"?

Seriously?

I’d be a lot happier if Barletta had won the primary, and I do think Mastriano is going to lose the general.

Yes, it is. Contract law is the highest law of the land and the FIRST AMENDMENT gives political classes (and beliefs) just as much rights as “sexual orientation” (which I’ll point out is neither objective or provable)

But regardless, it does beg the question. If you believe that bakeries MUST write perverse messages on their cakes because the law says so, then do you not also believe that a theater MUST allow a movie to be shown in their venue with perverse messages?

Well, IF Mastriano loses the general election, then it will be due to self-fulfilling defeatist attitudes like yours and the all the treachery and backstabbing that's currently going on within the Pennsylvania GOP swamp...

‘Mastriano is unacceptable’: A group of Pennsylvania Republicans is organizing to support Shapiro

BTW, has-been/fence-sitter Lou Barletta had no chance...he was no where to be seen during Wolf's COVID lockdown while Mastriano was front-and-center every day fighting it. That's why Mastriano crushed him in the primary, despite the GOP-E's last minute efforts to boost Barletta.

If he loses, it won’t be because I have s bad attitude, it’ll be because he’s a NUT!

Ok, saying he is a nut is not helpful. Sorry. But as I already said, he seems to introduce legislation that goes nowhere. It looks a bit like he does it just to grab headlines rather than helping to address the challenges Pennsylvania faces. This state has a lot of potential, but we also have a bunch of organizational problems with the way solutions are structured.

For instance, they are reliant on private contractors to do road repairs. So instead of being able to go to the department that handles xyz repair and say “hey you, get out there and get this done!” they have to contact the contractor, and then they have to work through lawyers and possibly the courts, slowing everything down and driving up costs.

Mastriano has been a publicity seeker, but what we need is a problem solver. I don’t doubt that he is a man with a formidable skill set, but when you tell half the voters that you are in favor of no exception being made for the life of the mother, you basically are telling them to go vote for someone else.

Lancaster is also the hometown of James Buchanan, widely regarded as the worst president in U.S. history. But we will see where he ranks after Slow Joe Biden has been in office as long . . . if he makes it that long.

But as I already said, he seems to introduce legislation that goes nowhere.

So why is that? Oh yeah, Jake Corman routinely sabotaged it so that he could run for governor himself, and when it did get through, Wolf vetoed it, like THIS on Friday:

Wolf vetoes Mastriano Pennsylvania poll watcher bill

Do you actually expect Wolf to sign ANY legislation into law that Mastriano sponsored or co-sponsored? If not, then what would you have him do in the Senate, with backstabbing Corman and his swamp weasels running the show?

Either you are a person who can get things done in the Pennsylvania State legislature (where your party controls both chambers), or you’re not. As I said, I’m sure that Mastriano has some very impressive skill-sets, but if you don’t have the skill-set that makes you effective in a job, then you should find a job that matches the skills you’ve got. Its not just Mastriano that has this problem, Fetterman does too.

Well, they say that Mastriano is a strategist. What would play well to that would have been to have learned the rules of the chamber back to front from day one. If Corman was routinely sabotaging Mastriano, then it is likely that he had a better grasp of how things worked.

The First Amendment protects us from the government, not us from private business.

If you believe that bakeries MUST write perverse messages on their cakes because the law says so, then do you not also believe that a theater MUST allow a movie to be shown in their venue with perverse messages?

I asked you first.

Do you even live in Pennsylvania? Corman is the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, and NO Republican legislation moves without his approval. And he did NOT approve of ANY of Mastriano's bills after he decided to run for governor himself? So how do you get around THAT, when you're just one of 50 senators in that chamber?

Good grief, are you THAT oblivious to the corruption in the State Legislature, that nothing in good faith gets by the Swamp Monsters?

No - saying that the first amendment only applies to the government is a lie and a leftist talking point.

Free speech is just as much of a RIGHT as “sexual orientation”

Your question was already answered in the first place.

The theater had a contract. The cake baker refused to make one.

Now you can answer.

I’m not really seeing a difference after he announced compared to before he announced, just clicking through his bills and their history.

Furthermore, it appears that it may have been Mastriano playing the spoiler, not Corman, since Corman announced in November 2021, and then Mastriano announced in January 2022.
