Biden officials privately doubt that Ukraine can win back all of its territory

White House officials are losing confidence that Ukraine will ever be able to take back all of the land it has lost to Russia over the past four months of war, US officials told CNN, even with the heavier and more sophisticated weaponry the US and its allies plan to send.

Advisers to President Joe Biden have begun debating internally how and whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should shift his definition of a Ukrainian “victory” – adjusting for the possibility that his country has shrunk irreversibly.

Every death was avoidable and if it wasn't for Demented Joe and the Liz Cheney-Adam Kinzinger wing of the Republican party, they would have been avoided.

The global oligarchs no doubt knew this early on — but it didn’t stop them from goading the Ukraine into sending tens of thousands of Ukrainian and Russian men to their death.

Still time to kill more Russians, and make this as unprofitable for Putin and his orcs as possible so they think a third time before doing it again.

Which know how the Biden Administration lies about everything, means the Ukraine won’t get an acre back.

Every death was avoidable and would have been prevented if Russia had not invaded. Place the blame where it belongs.

It all could have been avoided before 2/24, but Biden and his Neocons wanted war.

If Ukraine negotiates for peace before the mid-terms and Russia gets to keep the eastern portion of Ukraine, it will be even worse for Biden.

I expect Biden to push Ukraine to drag it out past November to prevent the blowback.

From day 1 I have seen no end scenario other than Ukraine surrender.

These long range weapons they are getting could be used to shell cities held by the LPR, DPR and/or Russia indefinitely. So it could make no sense for Russia to agree to terms that leaves any part of Ukraine outside of their control. Even taking Kiev and everywhere east of Lviv would result in ammunition trains from Poland sending in multi 100s of kilometers of range rockets shooting into the rest of Ukraine forever.

The only thing that can work is relying on the reality that Poland will not fire into Ukraine. So all of it must be taken.

I suspect this will happen via military coup. Zelensky, in a not stupid at all tactic, will not let Ukraine troops retreat. His reasoning is solid. Peace talks may unfold and the occupation lines that exist that moment will be powerful negotiation positions, so he needs troops to refuse to retreat from territory.

But all militaries are insular. The generals in Kiev personally know the guys they are ordering to suicide and refusal to retreat. Their wives are friends. Their kids play together. A time will come when they won’t do this anymore. They will overthrow the government and make peace with the Russians, returning Ukraine to the Russian sphere. The EU’s visa process for refugees is so lucrative that anyone in Ukraine who objects will simply leave, by train. No one will prevent them leaving.

It’s the big difference from WWII France. There was no viable way for people to leave.

It all could have been avoided before 2/24, but Biden and his Neocons wanted war.

It was the Russians who started this war and no one else. Even now, if NATO expansions were the real reason, they could accept Ukraine's declaration that they are no longer seeking NATO membership and go home. The cause of this war was nothing but the Russian desire to restore the old imperial Russian borders and its overlordship over Ukraine. Anything else is pure rationalization and propaganda.

I’m sure this was the plan all the way back when Victoria Nuland overthrew the Ukrainian government

Sounds right. A lot depends on how this G7 went and with Macron’s oil statement today it didn’t go well.
