Every branch of the U.S. military is struggling to meet its fiscal year 2022 recruiting goals, say multiple U.S. military and defense officials, and numbers obtained by NBC News show both a record low percentage of young Americans eligible to serve and an even tinier fraction willing to consider it.
The officials said the Pentagon’s top leaders are now scrambling for ways to find new recruits to fill out the ranks of the all-volunteer force. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks consider the shortfall a serious issue, said the officials, and have been meeting on it frequently with other leaders.
“This is the start of a long drought for military recruiting,” said Ret. Lt. Gen. Thomas Spoehr of the Heritage Foundation, a think tank. He said the military has not had such a hard time signing recruits since 1973, the year the U.S. left Vietnam and the draft officially ended. Spoehr said he does not believe a revival of the draft is imminent, but “2022 is the year we question the sustainability of the all-volunteer force.” ...
An internal Defense Department survey obtained by NBC News found that only 9% of those young Americans eligible to serve in the military had any inclination to do so, the lowest number since 2007.
The survey sheds light on how both Americans’ view of the military and the growing civilian-military divide may also be factors in slumping recruitment, and how public attitudes could cause recruiting struggles for years to come...
In 2021 the annual Reagan National Defense Survey, conducted by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, found that just 45% of Americans had a great deal of trust and confidence in the military, down 25 points since 2018...

Twenty years of wars. I’m not sure I’d be quick to sign up either.
Recruiters should start trolling the mens rooms at truck stops and highway rest stations.
It not the just the wars it’s the “wokeness”.
But where would the rebel go to defect? No safe harbor anymore.
Because they're run by deranged, Democrat libtard trash.
What the homosexual rainbow USMC bullets weren't an effective recruitment image?
Good point and funny video.
Reminds me of the songs “Copperhead Road” and “A Country Boy Can Survive”
The queers are like a racoon in a corn patch, and the military was just a cob.
It's relative. The grass is greener on the other side.
Depending on how history and events unfold, the "patriotic mercenary" may complete his tour of duty and never find an opening.
I don't believe any of the founders joined the King's army, but plenty of colonists did.
And in two days they threaten to chuck four divisions out the door for not getting jabbed.
Army cuts high school diploma requirement to boost recruiting

Recruits have to score a 35 on the ASVAB.
Absolutely perfect.
I encourage every young man or woman who are considering joining to wait until we have a CIC that will not use them as cannon fodder on the battlefield.
If they wait they will not suffer under the command of Woke leadership.
If O’Biden decided to use the nation’s military against it’s own citizens, I believe many in the military would abandon the traitorous regime and head home to defend their families. I know I would. The “technical talent” you talk about would “walk away” with those true Patriots...along with quite a few weapons. Would you remain at post while soldiers of your very own Army are kicking doors down in your parent’s town?
When we have people like Thoroughly Modern Milley and all the other wokesters running things and trying to flood the ranks with gays, lesbians, and trans, is it any wonder that normal people want to stay away?
I have a relative in the navy that refused the jab and they were in the process of doing an honorable discharge. He scored a 98 on the ASVAB. He was supposed to be released last March/April. They gave him a date, he had his house ready to sell and a new job already lined up. They came to him winking and blinking and asked if he would like to stay in the navy and not take the jab. Since Biden he’s come to realize the navy leadership is a woke bunch of incompetent politicians and their social experiments are going to get people killed in mass numbers in a shooting war. He told them, not interested, I’ll take the discharge. So his discharge date has been moved to a “date in the future”.
Unless you are queer as a three dollar bill, stay out of this military. It is abusive of anyone not in a protected class. Find something else to do. Starve the beast. It is not worthy of a decent man.
I was 100% relieved when my 20-year old nephew decided NOT to join the military - he must have left his phone number and address with a recruiter b/c he said they hounded him for WEEKS.
I told him his first assignment would have been to read “White Fragility.”
I used to post StateDefenseForce.com to those who were unaware of another legal State Guard force that is under the sole command of the Governors. After much research, I concluded they are mostly used for natural disaster relief and SAR. They don't have the training, arms, command experience, to counter any Fedgov agency against obvious tyranny. Plus, the various Governors would not have the will to activate them.
Example: California has a State Defense Force. You think Newsome would activate them to counter a Federal incursion?
Best to remain quiet and think Swamp Rats if things got ugly.
Yeah, but they’re still playing carrot and stick with the job roles they offer to Recruits.
They get ‘em good and gassed on something like being trained as an electrician, then there’s some piece of paperwork that isn’t done, yet, so they can’t pull the trigger on it, and by the time that piece of paperwork does get in there, the electrician role isn’t available, anymore, but “Oh, well, there’s a network comms role you can be trained in,” except there’s some other thing that needs to get done, first, and by the time it’s done that role isn’t available, either, but — never fear — you can train as a loadmaster...
So, the recruiting process becomes this descending spiral from learning a trade while serving that could become a life-long private business after separation from service, to learning something much less marketable for which your only post-service role would be as an employee.
