Republicans need a leader without Trump’s 2020 obsession
New York Post ^ | June 19, 2022 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 06/19/2022 4:16:18 PM PDT by karpov

It’s understandable that Democrats would want to constantly revisit Jan. 6 — to invoke it, investigate it and sacralize it even.

It’s a mystery, at least from a certain level of abstraction, why Republicans would want to have anything to do with that day or want to fixate on the 2020 election.

The party is on the cusp of a midterm triumph, has enormous openings on the economy and education thanks to Biden administration stumbles and left-wing overreach, is making inroads among Hispanic voters and has a well-stocked political bench that Democrats should envy.

Yet the GOP is stuck litigating the past almost entirely because its putative leader in Mar-a-Lago is incapable of admitting error or defeat and will never stop trying to excuse and explain away his infamous conduct after November 2020.

You can argue that Jan. 6 wasn’t an insurrection; that the composition of the committee is unfair and lacks the adversarial element that has always been presumed to be central to the workings of such bodies; that the revelations or supposed revelations from the committee are being overhyped; and that Trump, whatever his failings, didn’t commit crimes and shouldn’t be charged with one.

In fact, I agree with every one of those propositions. But none of them makes Jan. 6 any better or makes it good.

It’s not quite true, as is often said, that every election is about the future. Republicans waved the bloody shirt of the Civil War for years. Democrats ran against Herbert Hoover for as long as they could. Republicans still talk about Jimmy Carter.

In all these instances, though, a party made a focal point of a low and embarrassing moment for the other side, not its own.

Rich,
We can successfully campaign on our economic record vs the libtards and still point out all the things wrong with the election. Election Integrity > Stolen Election. It isn’t hard to wordsmith the right words to lead the discussion. Most American’s want Voter ID. Most voters want clean, fair elections.

The repubs have to send 100’s of poll watchers to Philly and other places. When you hear stories were two people are available to watch counting at some convention center, we are sending the message, we don’t give a shit.

Lowry, you have been trying for years to change our minds.

GIVE IT UP, YOU NEVER WILL LIKE PRESIDENT TRUMP...AND THOSE OF US WHO LOVE HIM WILL NEVER AGREE WITH A TWERP LIKE YOU.

So read you latest National Review...which I used to read with pleasure...grab a beer and forget your Crusade.

That wouldn’t be a leader. Everyone else cowars in the face of the media as they say the election was without issue. A real leader in this situation will do what only Trump is doing. Notice that it doesn’t really get much worst than a stolen election. Onward Trump!

Yea, Biden would bend any way the breeze pointed. He not only has a lack of obsession, he is incapable of any desire whatsoever - except boinking his brother’s wife and little girls. He’s one of ‘them thar preverts’ (intentional spelling).

Whatever Republican is nominated in 2024 will be subjected to the same vicious lying attacks that Trump was subjected to. All things being equal, I’d prefer to go with a fighter. Trump immediately comes to mind.

There was certainly fraud in this last election. I’m not sure if it was enough for Trump to lose, but there was fraud. Trump has every right to be furious about it and the lack of any real investigation.

That said, he needs to move on to ‘24. The fraud flag has been raised. Everyone knows his position. Constant dwelling is not going to change where he’s at right now — but it might change where he’s going if he doesn’t move on and work to win the next round.

Jan 6th is the day this nation died...

Now... call it what you want, but until that date is reconciled, We The People is OVER.

Obsession??? I don’t think so.

If these coward representatives and senators keep their heads buried in the sand, they will eventually get their asses blown off!

“We’ve had them. They always lose.”

Right you are, President Trump has a track record second to none.

“The Republicans need to ignore Rupert Murdoch and nominate Trump again in 2024.”

I completely agree. The Democrats and RINOs are scared to death of this man. They cannot control him. GO TRUMP GO

What Republicans need is to be rid of the RINOs and Assistant Democrats masquerading as Conservatives. What the country needs is a strong leader with a proven track record. That would be none other than PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP, winner of the 2020 election.

"They’re back to picking our “electable” leaders, I see."

I learned a long time ago, to ignore any recommendations for GOP candidates, especially Presidential candidates, from the main stream media, and Rinos. Lowery probably still thinks that McCain was a great choice.

All together now, (chorusing) Democrats are lawless because Republicans are ball less.

Thank you, Ann.

Trump is doing to the Democrats what then Democrats did to him for 2-1/2 years. They wouldn’t stop their Trump/Russia Collusion obsession. The difference is, there’s good evidence that the Democrats, in key swing states, changed the election laws by executive order overriding the legislatures, which is unconstutitional. This resulted in ballot harvesting, a technique developed by Democrats in California. But there is NO evidence that Trump colluded with Russia to win the election.

The Constitution dies on Usurpation Day, January 20, 2009 when ALL of our elected and appointed swore in the ineligible Kenyan from Indonesia.

Natural born citizens have only ONE nationality, that’s why they are NATURALLY citizens.

It was that singularity of nationality that the founders were requiring.

NO ONE born with foreign nationality is a natural born citizen because they ARE born foreigners, even if born here.
