A 66-year-old male blood donor turned away from the clinic after refusing to answer a question about whether he was pregnant as part of a pre-donation questionnaire.
Male donor denied admission after he refused to tell if she was pregnant
For nearly 50 years, Leslie Sinclair has transfused an impressive 125 pints of blood.
After complaining, he said the staff told him they couldn’t accept his blood donation.
For nearly 50 years, Leslie Sinclair has transfused an impressive 125 pints of blood.
But his last trip was turned down after he refused to answer a question about whether he was pregnant or not.
Sinclair, 66, was ordered to fill out a form asking if he was expecting a baby or if he had been pregnant within the past six months.
When he complained that, as a man in his 60s, the question was inappropriate and that he should not answer it, Mr. Sinclair said the clinic staff told him that they could not accept his blood.
Leslie Sinclair, 66, was ordered to fill out a form asking if he was expecting a baby or if he had been pregnant within the past six months.
It emerged last night that all potential donors are being asked if they are pregnant to “promote inclusiveness” and because pregnancy “is not always visually clear.”
The standoff came as NHS England launched a campaign earlier this week to recruit another million blood donors over the next five years after numbers dwindled during the pandemic. The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) launched a campaign earlier this month to find 16,000 new donors next year.
It emerged last night that all potential donors are being asked if they are pregnant to “promote inclusion” and because pregnancy “is not always visually clear.”
Angered by the refusal to take his blood, Mr. Sinclair left and last night spoke of his disappointment at the “meaningless” decision.
The father-of-two from Stirling in central Scotland said: “I am angry because I have been donating blood since I was 18 and I go with it regularly. I am very happy to do it without any problem.
“There is always a form to fill out and that’s fine – they tend to ask about health conditions or illnesses – and it’s clear that the blood has to be safe. This time there was a question I hadn’t seen before: “Are you pregnant or have you been in the last six months?” which required a yes or no answer.
“I indicated to the staff that I could not be in this position, but they told me that I must answer, otherwise I would not be able to donate blood.
“I told them that it was stupid and that if I had to leave I would not come back and that was it, I got on my bike and left.
“It makes no sense and makes me angry because there are vulnerable people who are waiting for blood, including children, and are in desperate need of help. But they were denied my blood because of the obligation to answer a question that cannot be answered.
Mr Sinclair said: “They were denied my blood because of an obligation to answer a question that cannot be answered.”
Mr Sinclair said his wife Margaret, 59, was also shocked, adding: “She just can’t figure it out either.” Pregnant women must wait six months after giving birth to donate blood. Mr. Sinclair, a former engineering company driver, went to the Albert Hall in Stirling on Wednesday to donate blood.
Last night Professor Mark Turner, Director of SNBTS, said: “We appreciate the support of everyone in our donor community and thank Mr. Sinclair for his commitment over the years. While the issue of pregnancy is only relevant for those whose biological or birth sex is female, the gender assigned at birth is not always visually clear to staff.
“As a public body, we are aware of changes in society in how such questions can be asked without discrimination and have a duty to promote inclusion – so all donors are now being asked the same questions.”
I’ll bet my favorite kilt that they would not ask a flamboyant man if he had aids and willingly accept his blood and spread aids throughout the population so as to be “inclusive.”
I’m no longer astounded at the rampant insanity. It seems to be pandemic now.
The story was about one guy. So how many guys just answered the question and donated? When the follow-up article says ALL men stopped donating, then this crap will go away. When only one man walks away from a donation, they win and the crap continues.
“ordered to fill out a form asking if he was expecting a baby or if he had been pregnant within the past six months”
Weird...where I donate the form is now digital on a tablet and IIRC that particular question allows you to select an “I am a male” option.
Sounds like the donor center needs to get into the 21st century.
He ought just start donating at a plasma center and start making some money....I’m considering that myself.
Not to be argumentative but Putin doesn't go along with it or any of the other BS! How can he be so reasonable?
I would worry about them poking a needle in me, if they don’t know a man can’t get pregnant.

Don’t hold back bro tell us how you REALLY feel. LOL!
Maybe he didn’t answer because he hasn’t told his parents the happy news yet?
The question cannot be answered consistent with a genuine devotion to the Truth and to all that that entails.
He should have answered yes I’m pregnant I’m having a baby elephant you want to see it’s trunk.
People have become nuts.
Big surprise. Overly WOKE PC bureaucrats. It's happening around the World. I am beyond disgusted with this false gender awakening crap, especially being pushed on our children.
“Male donor denied admission after he refused to tell if she was pregnant”
Huh?
5.56mm
Most definitely if they are unable to discern a man from a woman. I wouldn't trust them to take blood or inject me with a needle. Or even make a cup of coffee.
“When will the black-market for blood start?”
I’m hoping for $10k a pint for my untainted by covid shots pure blood.
Do they ask you if you’ve been vaccinated with the covid shot?
‘all potential donors are being asked if they are pregnant to “promote inclusiveness”
Stupid f’ers.....
Next question. Were you born human or raccoon?
Ah yes....the UK national health care system. Ain’t it great?
So he is EXCLUDED due to a desire to promote INCLUSIVENESS!
While this is Scotland in the UK, that question is on the questionnaire I fill out every time I donate Blood here in the US. I can remember when, as a youth, there were about 8 questions asked whereas now, it is 50 on top of the normal age/weight/height and GENDER of M/F. More and more it is becoming a bizzaro world ruled by the most sensitive offend-able people!
I answer a lot of questions with N/A. Never had a problem with it.
