Former Raven Ed Reed Says $100k Fine for Jack Del Rio ‘Not Enough’

Former Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed, who spent nearly his entire career playing alongside a friend and fellow player charged with murder, believes that the $100,000 fine the Washington Commanders levied against defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio is “not enough.”

On Friday, the Washington Commanders fined Del Rio $100,000 for referring to the January 6 Capitol riots as a “dust-up.”

Del Rio had made the “dust-up” comment while addressing a tweet in which he questioned the emphasis the left has placed on the January 6 riots while seeming to not possess the same level of interest in prosecuting those who rioted across the country in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd.

Though Del Rio apologized for calling the riots a “dust-up,” Ron Rivera, the Commanders head coach and longtime friend of Del Rio, publicly criticized his coach and friend for the comments while calling January 6 an act of “domestic terrorism.”

Washington Commanders? What’s that?

I only remember the Redskins...did DC get a Woman’s football team or an indoor league team?

Help me out here...

“I’m one of those guilty of still watching football, despite them hating me.”

Me too, but as they continue to assault my values, I’ve noticed a couple of things. When the 4 or 5 minute commercial breaks start, I switch the channel and may not come back for 10 or 15 minutes. In the past when my Packers weren’t on local television, I’d go up to the local bar and watch them. No more.

If they put enough stomach-turning trans cheerleaders on the screen, I predict more and more men will tune out.

I think some fines have even been contested, maybe even gone to court, but the whole act of fining players, staffers, and coaches is still there.

You undoubtedly know much more about the NFL than I do (I think that I may have caught a few minutes of one NFL game on airport TV about 25 years ago, while waiting for a delayed flight - it's where the ball is a prolate spheroid, right? And the players are allowed to actually touch it with their hands? Correct me if I'm wrong.)

But my guess is that, after breaking one's butt for decades and slowly working one's way up the hierarchy, one is already so far into the "system" that it seems reasonable to accept when the higher-ups make you an offer and say, "Look, we'll pay you ten million dollars a year - but we also reserve the right to summarily impose $100,000 fines on you if we ever catch you eating peas with a knife, or failing to extend your pinkie when drinking tea."

One is already so far down the "rabbit hole" that it seems acceptable.

Del Rio is welcome to contest the fine, for all I care - but my attitude is: "Sleep with dogs, and wake up with fleas."

A big chunk of his annual remuneration is not for good coaching - it's for "toeing the company line."

Regards,

Me too [...]

Then you're both guilty / share in the guilt.

I used to be a fervent Coke consumer. But then they got "woke." So I now boycott them.

Now I wouldn't use Coke even only to clean my drains!

Kaepernick brought his opinions to work by protesting and expressing his opinion on the field about something that had nothing to do with work that most in the stadium disagreed with. He was lionized. This guy expresses his opinion on his own time on twitter about something that has nothing to do with football and he is fined by his employer who disagrees with his opinion.
He should sue them if he does not need the job.

The Redskins changed their name because Redskins was an un-woke name. I think the new name is Commanders, though, I thought the Commanders were a soccer team so what do I know.

I would’ve thought the Washington Swamp Monsters or the Washington Pajama Boys would’ve been more appropriate if they wanted to change the name.

I guess that’s why I see so much Washington Redskins apparel recently at clothing resale stands at our local night markets.

Shaking my head.

He went to the University of Miami, ‘nuff said.

Del Rio sent his kid to UF.

I think all professional sports are in for a rude awakening. The business model is not sustainable, which is why they embraced betting, it’s the only thing really keeping it afloat.
