A 1,200-mile road-trip and no baby formula to be found. This is a nightmare
The Guardian ^ | June 11,2022 | Anna Gazmarian

The original formula recall announced by the FDA in February did not include the brand we used for our daughter, which made me assume that we would not be affected. As a first-time mom already concerned about keeping her baby safe during the pandemic, I didn’t need another thing to worry about. I thought that the government would step in before families had to go out of their way to find food. We noticed the large empty spaces on shelves at every store but remained optimistic that help would arrive soon. Yet the shelves only grew emptier.

My mother-in-law agreed to look for formula while driving from Nebraska to visit us. We relaxed a bit: surely some formula could be found on a 1,200-mile road trip. But we were wrong. There was none. Someone at our church offered us several boxes of expired formula from Germany. I read from many health experts online that the nutrients in formula start to degrade over time and bacteria can develop in formula past its due date – but we didn’t have any other options. Maybe I am just a first-time mom who needs to stop Googling everything, but I was desperate for someone to assure me that I was making the right choices and taking appropriate risks to keep my daughter alive.

Luckily, our daughter was able to tolerate the milk. But even with half the formula, we still struggle to find what we need. I recently had a friend in Boston mail me three boxes that she found 30 minutes outside the city. The support of my community is the only thing that keeps me believing in my daughter’s future. I recognize that it is a luxury to even have a support system to help us get by.

I don’t get how Biden got into the middle of all this.

Babies over six months of age can have whole cow’s milk, according to a new recommendation from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

The new guidance comes amid the infant formula shortage in the United States.

The AAP says whole cow’s milk is an option for older babies if formula is not available, as long as the child doesn’t need a specialty formula for allergies or other health needs.

However, the AAP says cow’s milk isn’t ideal, but it is better than diluting formula or trying to make it at home.

My kids were on whole milk at six months. 1970…..you can sell more if you get the pediatricians to say one year..

In simple terms, a rising tide lifts all ships. Biden is low tide and smells worse.

Did mom leave her breasts at home during that long road trip?

Looks like it was the utterly unconstitutional FDA.

Why do We the People allow these completely unauthorized, unconstitutional agencies to carry on?

First, they’re an illegal expansion of the federal government.

Secondly, they do much more harm than good.

It’s a feature, not a bug.

The faithful apparently must be made to suffer.

Read the ingredients in baby formula. Who the hell would feed babies that crap? It’s not even real. Are people this stupid and sheep-like that they would give this stuff to their kids because it is the thing to do?

Big Daddy Govrrnment is a terrible daddy. Counting on him is foolish. He is the one who created the shortage and he doesn’t even care.

Silly little leftist. Substitute anything for "find food" and tell me if you really think your government cares anything about you.

Once upon a time, the ruling class may have viewed voters like you as useful idiots. But once they used you, only the idiot part remains.

Your stupid little vote isn't even that useful to them anymore now that they have machinery in place to create whatever they need to avoid any result they can't tolerate.

Bad reasoning on their part.

Some women cannot breast feed. I don’t know how many times we women repeat this. If a woman is not breast feeding for any reason, many justifiable health reasons, the tank has no breast milk. There is no magic valve to turn it off and on. LOL

Guess again……

Reality sucks, doesn’t it? Now you know exactly how much your government cares for you.

FWIW, the pandemic is over two years old. Just how old is this baby of yours that it still needs formula?

True but those would be in the minority, correct?

More than 90% of women choose formula over breast milk and I'm probably being generous. When my wife breastfed, she had to travel to the next town over to find a La Leche League group. That's how rare it was.
