Actor Jon Voight reacted to the deadly Uvalde, Texas, school shooting by suggesting that Americans should undergo “proper testing” for gun ownership.
On May 28, 2022, four days after the heinous attack on Uvalde’s Robb Elementary School, Voight posted a video to Twitter and said:
It’s not about left right, guns no guns, this about brains that are disfunctioning, this is mental. This is not about healthy human beings serving the country with arms to bear or even the right of this constitution for bearing arms. It is a right to use arms with proper purpose to defend one’s safety, we must not allow mental illness to take away our right to bear arms.
Voight then spoke of those killed by the gunman, saying “These innocent souls…are children of God. I must remind us all that God will take home these angels.”
The Oscar-winner then posted a second video, in which he said, “We must identify every individual for their credentials for their mental capacity to bear arms. There should be proper qualifications for gun ownership, and proper testing. One should only own a gun if they’re qualified and schooled.”

The second amendment says “The right to keep and bear arms…” not the “privilege to keep…” you don’t need the government’s permission to exercise a right. A right by definition doesn’t require permission, but we’ve already lost the right. You have to pass the instant background check ie get the government’s permission to exercise your right. Sounds like an infringement to me.

You’re making the assumption that gun control is about stopping crime. It is not. It is 100% about disarming the citizenry to render them helpless to resist tyranny.
To implement this provision would be to transform the RKBA’s from an inalienable right into a government sanctioned privilege like a driver’s license.

My problem with the “we must identify every individual for their credentials for mental capacity......” is WHO in the hell decides this?
I know what gun hating leftists want. They want ANY ‘outing’ of someone made by ANYONE on Twitter, Facebook or wherever to be grounds enough to red flag someone and deny them their Bill of Rights protection.
That could be your neighbor, an acquaintance or whoever who just doesn’t like you and wants to ‘fix your conservative ass good.’

Bingo! What is significant about that right is that it existed prior to the Constitution.
Jon should imagine the zeal and goals of the early settlers, most of whom were fleeing tyranny or had just recently fought a deadly battle against it.
The Founders feared without the 2dA there would be no hope of ratification and hurriedly attempted, along with other common-sense provisions in the Bill of Rights, to guarantee the new government would not infringe on that preexisting right.
78 minutes. That’s what it took for state licensed officers to drop their donuts and coffee to do what needed to be done. It didn’t include arresting parents trying to save their kids. This has been going on since 1966, the 1st documented mass school shooting. The police and teachers train for this and the first the cops do at all these events is to protect their sorry asses why the kids get shot.
The solution is simple. Do away with gun free zones, arm the office staff, put a panic button in the main office and class that automatically locks the doors, and hit SROs who will stay on campus willing to put their lives on the line. This is not a gun problem. This is a mentally insane problem that needs to be addressed. No more CRT, trannies, or drag queens in the classrooms.
It’s up to the parents to vote for school boards that will educate the kids, and fire teachers that won’t or can’t.

I’m sorry. Being a law abiding conservative, you do not have the requisite “credentials” to own a gun.

They want to be able to easily name and publicly ‘indict and deny’ anyone based on their word-of-mouth, even without benefit of doctors, judges, LE or whatever...
