Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on Friday said he expects new laws to be enacted in response the shooting this week that killed 21 people at an elementary school.
“Do we expect any laws to come out of this devastating crime? The answer is yes. Absolutely yes,” Abbott said.
When asked about calling a special session for the legislature in response to the shooting, he said “all options are on the table.”
Since the shooting, Republicans have focused their messaging on school security, while Democrats are advocating for more gun control.

There are too many laws already.
If laws could prevent crime, the last murder would have been committed by Cain.
How about you have these cops arrested and stick any new laws where the sun doesn’t shine.

The only laws that should be considered are ones that will harden school campuses against psychos getting access to them. One entrance to the campus, one entrance to the school building (except for one-way emergency-exit doors, six-foot brick walls on the perimeter, armed security guard(s) at the entrance to the campus.
The police are not coming to save you. They are going to secure the scene and stand around waiting for the hostage negotiator to show up. Meanwhile your kids die.
New laws will work as well as the ones we have now.
How many laws did the shooter break? And we need more laws? I don’t think so.

How about a law docking teacher’s a month’s pay for propping doors open?
Knee jerk legislation is the best legislation. 330,000,000 people in the country, 21 of them are slaughtered and we need to pass laws to restrict the rights of the rest.
Do we know who made the call that this was a hostage situation? Someone at the police command post made that call. The cops were standing down because their orders were to do so. Who made that call? Where is he?
New infringement will come!
How many thousands are slaughtered in our cities each year, mostly minorities killing other minorities? The numbers far outweigh the number killed in school shootings.
So you want a 6 foot brick wall around every elementary school in Texas with armed guards manning every entrance? That is absolutely ridiculous.
That is certainly true.
The killer lived in a world full of laws making so many things he did, illegal and/or crimes.
