School Shootings Aren’t Caused By Faulty Gun Laws But By The Collapse Of The Family
The Federalist ^ | MAY 27, 2022 | JOHN DANIEL DAVIDSON

At a press conference Wednesday in the aftermath of the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott almost said something profound. Almost.

Asked by reporters about gun laws in Texas, Abbott responded by talking about the need for more “mental health-resources” — a catch-all term often bandied about by Republican politicians in the wake of mass shootings like the one in Uvalde, in which 19 elementary school kids and two teachers were killed by a deeply disturbed 18-year-old.

Abbott, though, began going in a different direction with his response. He noted that 18-year-olds have been able to buy rifles in Texas for more than 60 years, and then asked: “Why is it that the majority of those 60 years we did not have school shootings and we do now?”

But then he stopped short, saying, “The reality is I do not know the answer to that question.”

Maybe Abbott really doesn’t know. Maybe it’s too much to expect an unimaginative politician like him to delve into the myriad forces of social and cultural decay that produce 18-year-old mass murderers. Maybe he was just trying to deflect questions from a hostile press corps.

After all, in the wake of school shootings, GOP politicians tend to snap into a defensive crouch as predictably as Democrats tend to regurgitate irrelevant talking points about gun control, as President Biden did earlier this week. So maybe that’s all this was.

But whether he meant to or not, Abbott’s comments approached the heart of the matter. Indeed, he could have made an even more expansive claim. Texas has been awash in firearms of all kinds for two centuries, ever since the first American empresarios began arriving in Texas at the invitation of the newly formed Mexican Republic. For the past 60 years or so, there...

This article could have been a book about all the liberal causes of child shooters. Liberalism creates these shooters. They eliminate fathers, discourage marriage, encourage female student success while denigrating male success. They eliminate school protection officers and blame us when things go bad.

Liberals attack God’s authority, police authority and now parental authority. Liberals shut down the schools and isolated children. They encourage children to question their gender and enter a fantasy world of perversion.

Yes, tens of millions play them, but it only takes one out of a million to become so desensitized to the violence that he decides to act it out in real life.

I’d add vulgar rap music doing the same desensitization to violence.. Actually, in fact, they glorify violence.

Note that many of our morals and violence problems trace back to the “Motion Picture Production Code,” (aka, the “Hays Code”) the industry guidelines for the self-censorship of content that was applied to most motion pictures released by major studios in the United States from 1934 to 1968.

Note that vulgar, extremely violent rap music and first person shooter games sprang up after the end of the Hays Code and the rise of personal computers, networks, the Internet, and HTML.

Maybe the only way back is to build our own modern coliseums and have gladiators fight to the death every Sunday.

Great list, but let’s not forget the failure of the police , at least in this case.

But what has caused the breakdown of the family and absentee fathers? One reason, of course, is the loss of faith. Another, I would argue, is the loss of men and women were created as men and women in order to come together and form families. Rather we have been trained to live selfish lives whose only good is self-actualization without commitments and personal sacrifices. We can see this played out in so many problems in society today.

The exact causes of schizophrenia are not known, but appear to be a complex mix of genetic factors, environmental stresses, drug use, viruses, adverse life events, etc. Ditto for bipolar, except genetics seem to play a stronger role. Some kids have brain damage from maternal drug or alcohol abuse before they were born. There is no single cause.

And the rest of the culture rot we’ve allowed to get a foothold and spread.

Yes, but what do you think is the root cause of the police not going toward the sound of the gun? Maybe the incessant racial politics that makes it impossible for them to do their jobs without fear of reprisal and loss of career?

I doubt all the police were cowards hunkered down.

It’s really disappointing that one cop thought to himself “Screw orders. I’m going to do the right thing no matter what.”

Mental illness can happen to children from the best of homes. Just as dementia can happen to the smartest, kindest most successful adults. Sometimes, there is nothing and no one to blame, no matter how much we want to blame something or someone.

I am so very sorry about your child. I cannot the heartbreak. Or the terrible stress you must be under.

Wow, it sounds like they are getting close to realizing that psychotropic drugs and various recreational drugs can’t take the place of a father in the home, doesn’t it?

Let’s not forget the constant messages Hollywood sends that problems are solved with violence. The average child has heard and seen countless murders on TV before they go to Kindergarten. The violent shows may be on late but the commercials are on all day.

Yes.

Salvadore Ramos did drugs and did not buy those firearms legally. He was spoiled rotten, and his parents and at least one grandparent are convicts. Look around us. The products of drug abuse and hasty choices in mates are everywhere.

'Let’s rush in because the cops aren’t doing anything': Parents frustrated...
Daily Mail
By Harriet Alexander
25 May 2022

"Jocelyn Rodriguez, 19, a Wendy's employee, told The New York Times that when she heard Ramos was the shooter, she was initially shocked, but then less surprised.

She knew him to have a bad temper and to snap at people...said he had a tendency to pick fights with co-workers, and would often talk about how much he hated his mother and grandmother, whom he told her did not let him smoke weed or do what he wanted.
"

[Something else interesting in the article:]

"Under a new Texas law passed in September, those aged 18-21 could buy guns if they had a protective order, because they were at risk of family violence, stalking, prostitution or sex trafficking."

[Did he have a protective order against someone else? I've seen no mention of it.]

"Perhaps gun shops should not sell guns to persons under 21 that lack either a substantial year-to-date paystub or accompanying person."

It's a tougher problem than that. There are good young men and women who are full time students between 18 and 21, and there are many other good ones with situations outside of the metropolitan rat race.

Meanwhile, many criminals work regular jobs while committing crimes on the side. And an accompanying person might be a partner in crime or loose, free and easy parent. Parents of several of the more notorious mass murderers have bought firearms for their drug-addled, crazy kids.

How about a few random drug tests including tests for psychoactive drugs for each of those under 21? That would have weeded out most of the young mass murderers we've heard about. More openness to reports of criminal tendencies with followup investigations for those reports might also be helpful.

No one is saying whether these murderous 18 year olds had been diagnosed with ADHD and had been on Adderall, Ritalin,
Zoloft, Paxil, or some other psychotropic drug.

..And if they were, we will likely never be told that they have joined the legions of other young men drugged out of their
minds to the point of murderous rampage.

The psychopaths who committed the mass murders also craved public attention. They seem to want negative attention the most. They want to be notorious. The want the world to be afraid of them. They want to be spoilers against the lives of law abiding people.

The media companies are much to blame for publicizing them so much. Mass murdering psychopaths crave that publicity.
