Mixed feelings abound after an older Florida woman said she shot and killed a man who had broken into her home.
Virginia Morrison, 69, told outlets she was protecting herself and her partner after a stranger—later identified as Ezequiel Rosario-Torres, 38—entered her home on Sunday, said nothing, and refused to leave, even in the face of separate warning shots.
“I have feelings. I have God in my life,” she told WOFL. “That’s my main thing: Wondering if God’s going to forgive me for taking a life. It bothers me.”
But at least one member of Rosario-Torres’ family suggested he wanted this to happen.
“Yes, he was very suicidal and this week especially he was acting very strange and out of character,” his daughter, who did not want to be identified, told WKMG.
“I heard the door handle kind of rattle, and then the door opened, and the guy stepped in my house,” Morrison told WESH. “I didn’t know who he was. I looked at him and I said, ‘Who are you and what do you want?'”
He said nothing, she told the outlet.

Yep, I recall a woman in Florida several years ago fired a warning shot at some guy who entered her carport. The law was called and the DA filed charges against her. She got like 20 years as well as my memory serves.
Makes sense, almost like “scorched earth”- he or she is gonna put people on the ultimate guilt trip.
A friend of mine came home one day to find a dead room mate wnho had suicided. The roomie had been caught molesting his little sister and the police were looking for him. So he blew his brains out in the apartment. Really horrible for my friend. Who cares about the molestor? Not I.

Sounds like she’s had some training putting that warning shot into the ground.
If she had fired into the air the police would have charged her with discharging a weapon within city limits, into a wall and one might share a bullet with a neighbor, or passing vehicle. Or house! Also against ordinances.
IMHO I would think she should be okay legally.
If she had training, I wonder if she insured herself with a liability package?
First two warning shot, center of body mass.
Third warning shot, forehead.
“Stop walking up on me or I’ll shoot you.” That would be my warning.
(Aren’t cops required to give a warning? I thought they were but I might be wrong.)
But that’s why I carry pepper spray, in addition to a piece. Pepper spray will disable someone - usually. (It’s worked on charging pit bulls, but I’ve never actually had to use pepper spray on a human attacker.) And then there’s no weapons or murder charge to ruin what started out as a nice walk in the park.
Haha, once a guy started following me while I was walking through a little Colorado town. I DID have Wally (9mm semiauto) but it was in my backpack. I had my pepper spray in my hand. I could tell he was thinking about trying something and I was awfully nervous about my backpack. He started talking to me and so I turned around and started talking to him like we were just having a conversation: “Yes, it IS a nice day, isn’t it?” and I held my pepper spray out in a suggestive manner. Fortunately, he decided that he had another engagement right at that moment.
That’s the problem with a gun, too: Even if it’s in a handy dandy ankle holster you might not be able to get to it that easily, and meanwhile Mr Bad might be able to wrestle it away from you.
But in this case we’re talking about an elderly woman and her even-more-elderly companion faced with a scary intruder in their home. And that lady appeared really frail, too - dunno if you saw her picture.
Patiently waiting for the cops to arrive probably would not have been the right move in this case, considering that the crapweasel intruder was suicidal.
She fired a warning shot because she was scared and confused, and - I mean, duh - didn’t want to kill someone. She reasonably thought he might run off if he saw the gun, but she miscalculated.
At least by inducing him to pursue her out into the yard where she shot him, they didn’t have to replace their carpet and furniture after getting blood all over everything.
Just remember these sage words of wisdom: I would rather be judged by twelve than carried by six.
His daughter said she knew he was suicidal. Why didn’t he just take an overdose? Jeez.
Real simple, don’t call it a warning shot when talking to police. Say I fired the first time in haste and missed, the second shot I had better control to stop his advance.

A “warning shot” in my book would be to the groin or lower abdomen area..
“How’s THAT, pal… do you want some more?..”
THAT is a warning shot.
Into the air? - you’re wasting expensive ammunition.
