US airlines like Delta and United are so desperate for pilots they are dropping some requirements and considering cutting training hours to get more pilots flying sooner

I’ll give it a shot. I’m pretty good on the 737 from cold & dark to taxi and takeoff in X Plane. Need to work on landing some more though.

It has not been discussed much, but older workers often felt there was an unwritten contract with their employers.
You treat us with decency and respect, and we will do a good job for you.
The employers tossed the decency and respect—and many older workers felt no obligation to stick around at that point.

Bound to work out well. The pilot/owner of a Beaver used to let me take the controls when we flew into our backcountry strip in the Yukon...wonder if I might qualify with Delta??

Maybe the airliners will do the same thing with foreign pilots. What could go wrong, especially if those pilots are all from Saudi Arabia. /spitI think I'll watch this transition from down here.

How ‘bout you stop forcibly jabbing pilots, some of whom then have career ending heart problems?

"Now I refuse to fly at all." Ditto. I'm bugged out and willing to stay put for as long as it takes.

Though I certainly wasn’t a frequent flyer, when Bush instituted the TSA nazis I vowed not to fly again.
If I can’t drive there, I don’t go there.

Aviation is a very narrow track and the skills involved in flying don’t apply to other fields. Who wants to find themselves searching for a new career after spending all that time and effort just to have airlines mandate another medical experiment?

NS, eventually tried to copy that management style. Now they’re sucking for employees as is CSX. Explains why I see hiring ads for CSX for the first time in my life. They must be desperate.

Yup.
The railroads never needed to advertise for jobs. That pension is too good if you can make it far enough to collect.
But Harrison and his minions fired thousands. If they had listened to anyone, they would have culled the numbers just by attrition and retirements as the company was looking at having to replace 35% of its workforce due to retirements, over the course of a few years
But Hilal, Harrison and the major shareholders wanted more and they wanted it fast.

No mention of what they pay for newbies. I saw one of the crash disaster shows a while back and they stated the pilots of regional airlines are paid almost nothing.

My son wanted to go to the Univ. of North Dakota for their flying program and told him I couldn’t sign papers putting him in dept for $160,000 for a $35,000 a year job. A neighbor who is a military pilot told him let Uncle Sam train him. Unless your flying overseas, they don’t pay much. His old roommate in DC, his dad has a big job with FedEx and flies overseas a handful of times a year to keep his pilot’s license. He said the overseas pilots rake in the cash but it’s all about connections.

I used to tell young folks entering the work world “Be as loyal to the company as the company is to you.”

Any employer that required the vaxx sent a clear message to all of their current and prospective employees—you are just cattle to us—we can poke and prod you at will.
The message was received, and the herd got a bit spooked.
"You mean nothing to us, your years of loyalty mean nothing to us, and you will be sacrificed on a whim."
I'm seeing that with my local transit agencies as well. They were among the first major employers to prominently impose vax mandates last year, and their help wanted lists have gotten longer and longer ever since. Now they're even stumping for bus drivers and mechanics, jobs they never had to actively advertise before.
One of the agencies has loudly promoted that it did not cut any service during the Covid crisis...a rider made his own study and concluded that, while they may not have cut any schedules, they're actually providing only about half of the service.

Everyone will feel confident flying, knowing their pilots have had less training than necessary.

Yes, let Uncle Sam train you.
I remember being on a plane and a fellow passenger (a liberal probably) spit out, “I hope our pilot is not ex-military”.
When I fly, I hope the pilots ARE ex-military. No one could afford to actually pay for that much training.
