[Posters here need to stop calling black people “Amish.” I know they may be doing it to avoid machine censorship, but it’s wrong and is just about the same as using a more famous derogatory racial term that begins with an N.

We’ve let this get too much established among us. There is no defending it.]


It’s purely satirical and used to contrast what, on average, are cud-chewing Amish from red in tooth and claw blacks. Another satirical term is Canadians, some of the most peaceable folks you’ll ever run into. Heck, we don’t even use fairly neutral matter-of-fact nouns like schvartze, so why would we go beyond that?

No, I understand the origin of “Amish.” But everybody now knows exactly what it means, and it’s ugly.

We shouldn’t be doing it.
