No, I understand the origin of “Amish.” But everybody now knows exactly what it means, and it’s ugly.

We shouldn’t be doing it.

Besides, What about the Amish side of the situation. I wouldn’t want someone trying to re-race me...

I agree. It's silly and, honestly, smacks of a certain pussification to call things as they are.

People say "Amish" because they don't have the balls to say "blacks".

Although, on the other interwebs outside of Free Republic, people are using the term "Magic Americans" or "Basketball Americans" in place of this.

It's not just satire, it's an extended middle finger to the forces of political correctness. Would not any other such replacement word, once the reference became obvious, also be seen as "ugly"? Or is the suggestion here that we simply call a spade a spade?

I don't think you do. The use of Amish started a long time ago to show how triggered the media was when they neglected to report or provide descriptions of any incident where a non-white person was the perp. It was all sarcasm. The media went all out and rushed to describe certain crimes or suspects yet refused to call out everyone, publish names, descriptions, etc (if they had a middle eastern name for example). It's a play on the double standard.
