It must be some consolation to know the babies of illegals are receiving all the free formula they can drink at the border.

Isn’t the global economy wonderful? Babies can’t get baby formula. Maybe mothers will need to start nursing again? Imagine that!

How did babies eat prior to store bought baby formula? And to make it worse there were no throw away diapers. Sorry folks. I have a hard time with this one.

I have hesitated to put my 2 cents in on this subject, for fear of starting a back and forth, but here goes because the culprit is in the very first sentence!

Her doctor sabotaged her breastfeeding success. Perhaps if he had gone to veterinary school instead of medical school, he would have not put her and her baby in this unfortunate position.

Supplementing breast milk with formula will signal the breasts to stop producing milk. To increase milk supply, a good diet, lots of fluids, nursing as often as every 2 hours will increase the milk supply quickly. There are a couple of sensitive periods of time during a baby’s growth when breast milk supply may not be enough to meet the baby’s sudden growth spurts - These are at about 6 weeks and then again at about 12 weeks.

Also at about 6 weeks, the baby is often fussy, acting as if he/she is hungry. Often this is just a developmental stage, and maybe - who knows- his nervous system is maturing, and he is becoming more wakeful, and aware of different bodily sensations. These spisodes last about 4 hours or so, varying from baby to baby.

All of my babies did this, and it took me until my fourth blessing to not panic about this.

I solved it by going to bed, nursing the baby on the “empty side”, so he wouldn’t get too much milk during the “fussy time”, comforting and soothing him, and after three or four hours, nursed her on the full breast. Then, repear the next day, until it passed. It always does. Our wise great grandmothers called this “colic”. Don’t let it sabotage your success, and formula doesn’t help with this, nor cereal, or sugar water, or anything else. I never started solid food until about 6 months.

The breast milk supply will rapidly increase to meet the baby’s new demands with the above-increased feeding schedule. It is a good time to lie around, relax, nurse baby, and watch happy stuff on TV. Usually two days is all it takes.

Offering bottles of formula will cause the milk supply to decrease, and that happens fast. Those of you who are into economics will recognize the “supply and demand” pattern here, as will the dairy farmers among us.

Mothers. this is a very special time in your life. It is so worth the effort to understand that your body and your baby know how to produce the best milk on earth for babies. It is a gift from God, and we are foolish to try to fool “mother nature”.

Don’t give up, and for those of you who started down the breast milk trying the quick fix of formula supplements, stop immediately, take to your bed, drink and eat up, and nurse as often as you can get the baby to nurse, and your milk supply will magically increase to meet all your baby’s needs. It can be done!

Anyone who wants help can post or freepmail me. I am willing to share, and will do what I can to help you.

Fifty years ago in nursing school I remembe there were recipes for homemade formula. I vaguely remember a mixture of low-fat milk and Karo Syrup. These substitutes may not be optimum, but it may help the shortage while the country waits for the foreign teat to get over its contamination.

How’s that vote for demented Joe Biden working out for you, Karen? Reap what you sow - good and hard. We wouldn’t be close to experiencing anything like this if the mean tweeting man was still in charge.

This nation is full of nothing but weak, lazy, and needy people. Maybe she should push the Democrats to give her, and the rest of her ilk 3 days leave for menstrual cramps like Spain just did. Then they can give guys a 3 day leave for testicle aches.

Evaporated milk, water, corn syrup and liquid vitamins make a perfectly nutritious baby formula. Are moms too lazy to mix their own?
