Gov. Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma on Tuesday signed a bill prohibiting abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy, the latest attempt by Republican lawmakers in the state to find legal avenues to ban abortions that will withstand judicial challenges.
The law, the Oklahoma Heartbeat Act, was modeled on the one that came into force in Texas last year, with both banning abortions after fetal cardiac activity is detected, and requiring enforcement from civilians rather than government officials.
It was signed one day after a leaked draft opinion from the Supreme Court suggests that Roe v. Wade will be overturned in the coming weeks.
“I want Oklahoma to be the most pro-life state in the country because I represent all four million Oklahomans who overwhelmingly want to protect the unborn,” Mr. Stitt said on Twitter.
The law, which was approved by Oklahoma’s Legislature last week, goes into effect immediately. It is distinct from a new law last month that outlaws abortion entirely except to save the life of a pregnant woman, which takes effect in late August.
Lawmakers in Oklahoma have put forward a number of anti-abortion bills in the hopes of closing off any potential loopholes.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Banning abortion ought to be a prerequisite for joining the SEC. LOL
In their faces type winning.
Good news.
Praise Jesus! Praise his Holy Name!
Oh Lord in Heaven, please protect us from the blows of the Enemy as we march onward, inching closer and closer to the final victory. In the Lord’s Sweet Name we ask it.
Amen
Good news. Personally, I used to be in the middle on abortion. For example in the event of, say a rape, or very early on such as less than 6 weeks, etc. seemed reasonable. Now that they left wants abortion all the way up to birth, even just a week before they baby is due if the mom decides to, no questions asked, it is pushed me much farther to the right on more limits.
The Dems are past all the way to birth. Now they are talking a month or so after birth. A few years from now they will be promoting murder of 5 year olds.
Women must realize that they make their choice in the moments before they get pregnant not after.
And men must be held responsible for the children they conceive.
If the child is put up for adoption or fostered or in a orphanage then both parents must pay until it’s 18th birthday or graduation from college.
How does abortion at 6 weeks work? I have heard abortions are not performed until at least 12 weeks. Something about they have to wait as when the baby is sucked out, it has to be at minimum 12 weeks to make sure they got all of it. They have to be able to piece the baby back together to account for all of it.
If they wait 8 weeks then they should be able to ban them completely.
I thought a couple of months ago, Oklahoma banned ALL abortions.
Confused
Oklahoma’s been pregnant for six weeks? Get the shotgun and find that rapscallion.
Think of the utter depravity of what you just wrote. I don't mean you personally, but the level to which we as a society have sunk to admit to doing such a procedure. It is an abomination.
Yup.
Makes me almost want to move to Oklahoma.
*PRO-BABY BUMP*
"after fetal cardiac activity is detected" That is when I believe the "baby" becomes a human being and not a mass of growing tissue. Others will say conception or later development before a beating heart. They are welcome to their opinions.
Now that the abortionists are pushing up to the point of birth, I consider that flat out MURDER of a person. No, I don't give a shit about so-called female rights to their own body. There is another human being involved.
After about 6 weeks? WTF is that.
Respectfully, as both a Biology major and a Christian minister, I am firmly in the Conception Camp:
That “mass of growing tissue” is not a tumor: a disorganized, chaotic degeneration that originates solely from the genetic blueprint of the woman, can develop spontaneously anywhere and anytime within her body, and has an indefinite - often permanent - duration within her body.
No, it is a genetically distinct organization of cells derived from the shared genetic information from a man as well as a woman, one that invariably proceeds toward a fully developed human being (whether successful or not), and one that departs from the woman’s uterus within a fairly predictable time frame. A still-born is still a still-born human being.
When was the last time a human male inseminated a human female, and the resultant “mass of growing tissue” turned into a giraffe - dead or alive, whole or deformed?
