WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday recommended travelers continue to wear masks in airplanes, trains and airports despite a judge's April 18 order declaring the 14-month-old transportation mask mandate unlawful.
The CDC said it based its recommendation on current COVID-19 conditions and spread as well as the protective value of masks.
The Justice Department last month filed notice it will appeal the ruling and it has until May 31 to do so. But the government has made no effort to seek immediate court action to reinstate the mandate.
The mask mandate had been due to expire on Tuesday just before midnight unless the CDC sought an extension of a Transportation Security Administration directive.
A CDC spokeswoman said, "As a result of a court order, the mask order is no longer in effect and is not being enforced."

Agreed. They've already characterized random criminal violence as a "public health crisis." Of course they call it "gun violence."
They (the fascist left) have seen the unexpectedly significant success they had with the scam-demic. Now they are looking to apply the same techniques to a couple other things on their wish list: civilian disarmament and climate change.
Civilian disarmament is necessary for them to move towards their ultimate goals of complete control. Climate change is their never-ending crisis that will get them there.
Not known to most is that Covid has political associations. I do not know how the elite left funnel money to a virus but it is most obvious they have bribed the virus. I do not even know what the virus does with the money.
Democrat functions are mask free due to the fact that the covid virus refuses to infect at such functions thus no mask is required.
Do not get on an airplane without a mask. The air is exchanged ever few minutes with pristine air from 30 thousand feet to 40 thousand feet. A small portion of this air is recirculated through hepa filters that will remove the virus. A modern airplane is probably the safest public environment one can use.

fwiw, I don’t have a giant circle of friends, family, etc. But I know 6 who either had or have the latest version of covid within the last 3 weeks. 1 in hospital and rest had flu like illness. Just reporting facts. Seems to be very contagious. I have no reason to fly these days. Masks should be a choice, but I would wear an N95 if I was flying these days.
I’ve got Covid right now, the can get bent.

Flew four times last week without the mask - twice on an seven passenger Prop to and from Culebra. The CDC can go shove it.
I have several people in my circle who have had the ‘Vid. I take it as seriously as I do a bad flu and I never masked for that (I just don’t travel when I am sick).
COVID is endemic and not a death sentence for anyone other than the same folks for whom pneumonia is a death sentence (such as a close member of my family). It is never going away.
How about the idiots who continue to wear a mask when they enter a restaurant, take it off for 90 minutes and then put it back on when they leave - eating food stops the virus!
The CDC has lost all credibility. All credibility.
I will not fly anymore. Screw it. I have recently driven to Richmond VA (3 days) and Kansas City (2 days). No more TSA or CDC or another other fed gov intrusion into my life.
I will be going to Los Angeles later this year which will be a hard 3 day trip, but it will be worth it.
