KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of trying to destroy the Donbas and all who live there.

“The constant brutal bombardments, the constant Russian strikes on infrastructure and residential areas show that Russia wants to empty this territory of all people. Therefore, the defence of our land, the defence of our people, is literally a fight for life,” he said late Friday in his nightly video address to the nation.

Problem is they are not an independent country. They have been run by other countries from the beginning.

Ukraine has been independent from 1991, something Russians can't seem to understand. Hence, 'They have been run by other countries from the beginning'.

That was two months ago...got anything more recent?

So, you're arguing that in those two months Ukrainians who detested the invading Russians now love them for destroying their homes? Okay.

Not a detailed map but I think this image sums up the current situation.

I dunno... I think it depends.

I don't know of any country in particular that invited the Russian Army into their country. Advisers and hardware maybe but not the whole damn Red Army.

No...I'm saying after two months of living normally under Russian administration and free from reprisal by Azov commissars, the people of Kherson have changed their perspective and are considering a referendum to declare independence from the Kiev regime.

The decision to avoid civilian casualties and surrender the city was a wise one. There are still a smattering of protesters, (an activity not allowed in Kiev) but they are unable to gin up the large crowds that greeted the Russian forces in early March.

That's not what they say when the Ukrainians drive the Russians out of their community.

That is not happening in very many places and certainly not in Donbass where the Russians are generally welcome.

Thanks for making my point.

Here's the "crowd" of protesters on 4-27...they look like a bunch of wine moms.

Proxy war began in 2014 - this is just a continuance. Victoria Nuland would agree.

I'm guessing their husbands are serving in Ukraine's military...but can you imagine what would happen to a similar group of dissenters gathering in Kiev?

I’ve seen many of those photos - Ukrainians are not good people to each other as they’re trying to say they are.

And if Gerasimov got toasted, remember that Mongol Putin sent him to the Izyum front as punishment knowing the likelihood of what would happen to him. What a guy.

Er, was Georgia planning to join NATO? Chechnya? Finland? Sweden?

NATO expansion / invasion fears are a fiction; a red herring. Westernisation vs Russification is the real story.

Germany is buying Russian oil, has refused to send any serious military aid to Ukraine, and despite that 48 hours ago Russian state TV had Berlin on a nuke target map anyway.

To understand why, it’s vital to understand that NATO expansion in the post-Soviet era has been bollocks from the minute Putin first said it. Putin knows it, we should know it.

In 2001 NATO Article 5 was issued in relation to asymmetric warfare instigated by a global network of islamists sponsored by Wahhabi agitators in Saudi Arabia with help from Pakistani and Afghan islamofascists.

So the ONE Article 5 mobilization in the organisation’s entire history wasn’t even looking in Russia’s general direction.

Anyone not suckered in by this rope-a-dope should’ve realised by 2008 that NATO expansion OBVIOUSLY wasn’t about threatening Russia unless Russia started invading its neighbors and pulling them back into its orbit.

Guess dhat - NATO is responding, belatedly, to Russian restoration of the original NATO raison d’etre. If Russia hadn’t bulldozed three other countries before setting its sights on Ukraine, Poland, Baltics and Finland NATO membership wouldn’t even be on Sweden’s to do list.

“Why is it always women leading protests? “

Because the men are busy killing Russians. Lots of them.
